The anime, Me & Roboco, was originally released in December 2022, based on the manga series in Shonen Jump. Each episode of the anime series was only around five minutes, and followed the story of elementary school student Bondo looking to get his own cute maid robot.
In Me & Roboco, Bondo eventually gets his own robot, but it is certainly not like the rest. Once Bondo receives Roboco, he soon realizes the robot is clumsy, but incredibly powerful. With Roboco at his side, he is taken on a lot of wacky adventures and starts to form a tight bond with the robot, often feeling lonely when she is not around. The manga was originally released in July 2020, and currently has 19 volumes and counting in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Roboco Protects Bondo From Danger
In the short 30-second teaser trailer, viewers get to see a small glimpse into what they can expect, including Roboco becoming a part of Bondo’s life, and protecting him from the surrounding dangers. There are some motorcycle action shots, comedic moments with Roboco kneeling on the ground, and more. The film is being directed by Akitaro Daichi from Studio Gallop, who has worked on titles such as Fruits Basket, Ninja Girl & Samurai Master, and Kodocha.
Many fans of the manga series are excited to see the film, especially since the anime only consisted of short three to five-minute episodes, making it difficult to flesh out the story. Some of the cast of the film have shown their excitement as well, including Hayao Matsuo, stating the “movie can deliver something richer and more powerful.” As both the manga and the anime for Me & Roboco were localized for the western audience, there’s a high chance of the film being brought to the west in the future as well.
Me & Roboco will be released in theaters on April 18, 2025.
