The times may change, but one thing remains constant in the MLBB M World Championships – a Filipino team in the Grand Finals. In all editions of the tournament, the Philippines has claimed the championship, except for M1, which featured an all-Indonesia finals. Now, Fnatic ONIC has once again carried the region to the MLBB M6 Grand Finals after taking down Team Liquid in the Upper Bracket Finals.
Fnatic ONIC are through to the M6 finals, and only one match separates them from the trophy
While the Philippines has consistently achieved glory in the M World Championships, Fnatic ONIC’s storyline is unique. This is the first M Series they have qualified for since M3. Earlier in the year, it seemed unlikely for the organization to make it, as they placed 5th in MPL PH Season 13.
However, the team completely revamped its roster mid-year, bringing together players from various backgrounds. The gamble paid off, as the new roster quickly found its rhythm, winning the MPL Philippines and securing their spot in the MLBB M6 World Championship.
Fnatic ONIC has had a nearly flawless run in the competition, dominating the Swiss Stage with a 3-0 record and advancing through the Upper Bracket to reach the Grand Finals.
Their only stumble came in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, where they narrowly triumphed over Myanmar’s Falcon Esports with a 3-2 victory.
The MLBB M6 World Championship Grand Final is set to take place at the Axiata Arena on Dec. 15 at 9 AM GMT.
The other three teams remaining in the tournament are Selangor Red Giants, Team Spirit, and, of course, Team Liquid ID, who were knocked into the Lower Bracket Final.
All three teams have a chance to advance to the Grand Finals, but the favorites are Selangor Red Giants. The home team won the MLBB MSC earlier this year and faced Fnatic ONIC in their first Upper Bracket match, which they lost. Now, they are cruising through the Lower Bracket, determined to make it to the finals and keep the Malaysian dream alive.
