Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and Iron Fist have all received the boost.

But while player sentiment remains high, with the game sitting at “Mostly Positive” reviews on Valve’s platform, debate has begun to kick in over the cost of some of its expensive microtransactions.

“Isn’t 26 Bucks A Bit Much For A Skin?”

Over on the Marvel Rivals subreddit, a new thread has popped up with user Picklebutt2300 unhappy at the price of the Spider-Man: No Way Home Bundle.

The bundle costs $26 and includes a skin based on No Way Home, an emote, a spray, an MVP animation that sees two other Spideys land next to the central Spider-Man, and a nameplate, a price that is a little too much to stomach for some.

The thread received almost 4,000 upvotes in its first 14 hours, generating nearly 1,500 comments in the process.

Picklebutt’s frustrations were shared by many, with TinyMain4592 summing up the general sentiment best when they said, “I don’t like it but also can’t take fault in it because it’s not a terribly shady business [practice], just expensive. This could change, but ATM, there’s no FOMO or gambling, which is a positive.”

I don’t like it but also can’t take fault in it because it’s not a terribly shady business [practice], just expensive.

However, while some were annoyed at the price of the No Way Home skin and others, which included a $45 Guardians of the Galaxy bundle reduced from $86, other players were happy to give Netease a pass.

“If that’s the way they keep all the heroes free, I’m okay with it, I don’t need skins that much,” great_light_knight said. Their comments were echoed by another user, who said, “With the free heroes, we should just expect overpriced skins.”

It was pointed out that the microtransactions weren’t designed for the average player; instead, “they’re for the guys who go ‘Oh, S**T, MCU Spider-Man?! *click*'”.

With the free heroes, we should just expect overpriced skins.

Many players even admitted that they’d be happy to dabble in the odd purchase, provided they played the game for a while. “Every f2p game I play that I will play for an extended period of time, I spend 60 bucks on. I figure it’s me “buying” the game,” one player said.

It’s a contentious issue, and one that’s not completely unexpected given the scope and the nature of Marvel Rivals, but if things stay as they are, they shouldn’t rock the boat too much. Let’s just hope they don’t get as aggressive as Marvel Snap’s new Rivals crossover cards.
