Marvel Rivals' New Free Skin is a Blessing, But There's a Catch

Marvel Rivals has stoked the flames of excitement among Marvel fans and gamers alike. With thirty-three playable characters at launch, players have a wide variety of superheroes and villains to main in Marvel Rivals.

Like many other first-person shooters, Marvel Rivals is already implementing more skins to continue the hype surrounding the game going forward. One of the latest is a new Moon Knight skin that must be earned under particular circumstances.

One of Marvel Rivals’ unique characteristics in the hero shooter genre is its destructible environments, which reinforce the power of the heroes.

Marvel Rivals Skins are Already Stacking Up

Many skins in Marvel Rivals are simply available in the Shop for blue coins called Units. These Units can be purchased with Lattice, Marvel Rivals’ premium currency that costs real-world money. Other skins are available through the game’s battle pass, redemption codes, Achievement Points, and Twitch Drops.

Some skins are exclusively available to certain consoles or subscribers. For example, players can get Spider-Man’s “Scarlet Spider” costume for free through the PlayStation store if they own a PS5 and Peni Parker’s “VEN#m” skin for free via the PlayStation Store if they are PlayStation Plus subscribers.

With Marvel Rivals promoting these skins and adding more to the game, it makes sense that the game has implemented new skins that players can earn for free. However, while these new free skins are definitely something for gamers to be excited about, the Golden Moonlight skin for Moon Knight in particular has a high barrier to entry: the ranked competitive ladder.

Gold Competitive Players Get Moon Knight’s Golden Moonlight Skin

Moon Knight’s addition to Marvel Rivals was leaked prior to being announced. The character exists in a sort of liminal space between niche and popular, as the character has received his own limited live action series on Disney Plus. As a character in Marvel Rivals, Moon Knight is a Duelist who can unleash a devastating amount of AOE damage if not kept in check. As the character begins to cement himself as one of the best characters in Marvel Rivals’ roster, players will certainly want to spice up their gameplay with a Moon Knight skin.

Marvel Rivals’ Competitive Mode

To promote Marvel Rivals’ competitive mode, the game announced that players who achieve Gold Rank will unlock the Golden Moonlight skin for Moon Knight. It seems that no specific tier in Gold Rank is necessary for players to achieve to unlock the skin; simply hitting Gold 3 will be enough to unlock this new skin.

For competitive players, this new skin seems like a great addition. However, players who wish to unlock Golden Moonlight will first need to hit Level 10 in order to unlock competitive gameplay. Additionally, it’s unclear if Golden Moonlight will only be available in Season 0 of Marvel Rivals or if this skin will be unlockable by hitting Gold Rank in future seasons. With Marvel Rivals Season 0 ending on January 9, players have about a month to unlock this new Moon Knight skin in Marvel Rivals.
