- The new theme includes sounds from seven iconic Mario Kart tracks.
As the world waits with bated breath for Nintendo to tell them something about the Switch 2, it has been hitting us with all sorts of weird, and sometimes wonderful, things to try and distract us. One of those things was the Alarmo, a Nintendo-made alarm clock that plays sounds and animations from some of the biggest Switch games, and as promised, Nintendo’s clock has begun to receive additional content.
The Alarmo’s 2.0.0 update, the first major patch the clock has received since launch, went live this morning. That means if you have an Alarmo that’s connected to the Wifi and linked to your Nintendo account, the update should be live right now. The update has added a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe theme to the clock’s options which, considering how many tens of millions the game has sold, is surprising it wasn’t there to begin with.

I’ve spent the last week with Nintendo’s fancy new clock, and now I get to tell you all about it.
In keeping with the five themes that have been available on the Alarmo since launch, the new Mario Kart option has seven sub-themes to choose from, each of which pulls music and sound effects from a different track in the game. All of the chosen tracks are ones Mario Kart fans will recognize while all having distinct music and sounds that will differentiate them from one another. The full list of options can be found below.

Yes, Nintendo Has Released DLC For A Clock
- Mario Kart Stadium
- Twisted Mansion
- Dolphin Shoals
- Electrodome
- Cloudtop Cruise
- Bowser’s Castle
- Rainbow Road
The more general details of the Alarmo’s new Mario Kart theme include the clock making the track selection sound when you choose the theme, and Toad mechanics working on a kart as the clock’s sleeping animation. As for what happens when your alarm goes off, music from your chosen track will play and the sounds racers make when they perform tricks will play as the clock picks up on your movement. The clock’s idle animation is Mario in his kart and he will drive forwards and backwards when it tracks you moving.
Despite some rolling their eyes at the idea of the Alarmo, it became clear very quickly that there’s a market for the clock, and a big one. The Alarmo has become so sought-after in Japan that Nintendo has canceled plans to put the accessory on general sale in January. Although the clock sold out very quickly in the US, you can pre-purchase it ahead of new stock arriving next month through Nintendo via the link in the box below.

Nintendo’s Alarmo is an alarm clock that tracks your movement while you sleep. You can choose from five games from which the clock will play music and sound effects, with each game having seven scenes to choose from. The Alarmo’s alarm will get more intense if you don’t get out of bed, and then stop automatically once you do get up.
