There are a lot of stats and modifiers in Path of Exile 2, and Movement Speed is arguably one of the most game-changing for the player experience. One of the most common issues players have with Path of Exile 2 Movement Speed is that characters move too slow for the size of the randomly-generated maps. But if you increase Movement Speed, PoE 2 becomes significantly less annoying when it comes to travel.

Path of Exile 2: How To Unlock & Use Salvage Bench
In Path of Exile 2, the Salvage Bench can be used to break down certain gear into parts to craft Rune Sockets onto other gear.
There are three ways players can increase Movement Speed in Path of Exile 2: getting a Movement Speed modifier on gear (especially Boots), taking Passive Skills that boost Movement Speed, or using particular skills to reduce the amount of time spent traversing the world with teleports or reduced effect of Slowing mechanics. This guide explains how to boost Movement Speed in Path of Exile 2 via these methods.
Gain Movement Speed Modifiers On Boots
In Path of Exile 2, Movement Speed modifiers mainly appear on Boots, though they can sometimes appear on other gear too (like Rings and Amulets). For most players, your chief source of passive Movement Speed bonuses in Path of Exile 2 will come from the modifiers on your Boots.
Some Boots drop as Magic or Rare items that already have the Movement Speed affix. Identify every pair of Magic or Rare Boots that you find to see if it offers a good base Movement Speed modifier. You can then add more modifiers to your Boots that will keep them relevant until you find more Boots with a higher Movement Speed bonus.
You can also use various PoE 2 Currencies to upgrade the Rarity of your Boots, or add more Modifiers to Boots that did not drop with Movement Speed.
- Orb of Transmutation will bring a Normal pair of Boots up to Magic Rarity, granting one random modifier, while the Regal Orb can be used to turn a pair of Magic Boots into Rare Boots, granting another random modifier.
- An Orb of Augmentation will add a random modifier to a Magic piece of equipment (up to 2x), while the Exalted Orb will add a modifier to a Rare piece of equipment (up to 6x).
These Currencies have a higher chance to grant a Movement Speed modifier on Boots than any other type of gear. If you are hurting for Movement Speed, Path of Exile 2 players should focus on acquiring and upgrading Boots first and foremost.
Increase Movement Speed In PoE 2 With Passives
In the Passive Skill Tree, Path of Exile 2 Movement Speed can be increased by certain Notable nodes and a handful of regular Skill nodes.

Path of Exile 2: Max Level & Leveling Milestones
Though the Path of Exile 2 Max Level remains unchanged from Path of Exile 1, there two games have different leveling progression milestones.
For example, if you start as a Ranger, the passive skill ‘Blur‘ (which can be unlocked by Level 5) will grant Movement Speed bonuses and Evasion rating, while Mercenaries can gain Movement Speed with the ‘Cross Strike‘ passive. Of course, your starting Class only determines your starting point on the Passive Skill Tree, and you can easily branch out and take Passives from distant areas to increase Movement Speed.
There are several Passive Skills like this in the tree that Path of Exile 2 players can build towards, but there is a catch – Movement Speed doesn’t typically affect your combat potential, it only affects the speed you explore the world.
While this can speed up your leveling, branching out to take Movement Speed passives over Passive Skills that enhance damage or defense can mean sacrificing crucial combat stats, making enemies and Bosses feel tougher than they ought to.
Some Skill & Support Gems Boost Movement Speed
The best way to increase Movement Speed in Path of Exile 2 is to acquire Boots with the Movement Speed modifier on them, and you can sacrifice some combat potential for speed if you take certain Passive Skill nodes. But some Support and Skill Gems can also indirectly boost Movement Speed when you use the associated ability, reducing your time spent traveling (or reducing the effect of Movement Speed debuffs in combat).
Some, like the Level 3 Support Gem ‘Mobility‘, reduce Movement Speed penalties while using supported Skills, increasing your Movement Speed by nullifying slow effects. The Level 2 Skill Gem ‘Flicker Strike‘ lets you teleport directly to an enemy to strike them, cutting down on time traveled while providing a function in combat.
Most Support and Skill Gem Movement Speed bonuses are not passive Movement Speed boosts, Path of Exile 2 players can still use these abilities to indirectly boost Movement Speed in certain situations, reducing the overall time it takes to clear maps.
Be sure to click “All Gems” in the Skill and Support Gem menu to peruse all of the options available, not just the recommended ones.
