Each expansion introduces a hefty new batch of items found in the open worlds of Eorzea, and they can be obtained in any number of ways. Whether it’s gathering them with a hatchet or a pickaxe, fishing them out of the open water, or redeeming various types of tokens for them, the methods you can use in Final Fantasy 14 are plentiful.

One particular crafting material that players often require for higher-end gear is Gaja Hide, but it turns out that you can’t find this item lying around just anywhere. If it’s a resource you find yourself in need of, you’ll first need to know where to look and how to get it.

As the name may suggest, Gaja Hide is a material in Final Fantasy 14 that is obtained from a specific creature rather than gathered from the ground or trees. In this case, it’s an obtainable drop from the Gaja, an elephant-like creature that is found wandering the southwest area of Thavnair, which is a region unlocked in the game’s Endwalker expansion. The easiest way to reach that specific spawn area is via the Yedlihmad aetheryte in Thavnair. From there, you can head up to the area where Gajas are usually found, near the coordinates (X:21, Y:29).

Gajas are Level 80 creatures that only use close-range physical attacks, and they can be dealt with easily enough one by one with your Chocobo summoned, if you’re at an equal level. At higher levels, they present little problems. The more of them you take down, the better your chances of obtaining a Gaja Hide or two. A sufficiently geared combat job should handle the grind just fine, and you can even consider a tank such as Warrior if you prefer to ride on higher defense stats.

However, that’s not the only way you can get Gaja Hide in Final Fantasy 14. Alternatively, you can also find it for sale in Thavnair by paying a visit to the Gemstone Trader named Mahveydah at (X:25.8, Y:34.6). They offer unlimited sources of Gaja Hide for 2 x Bicolor Gemstones each if you have some to spare. Also, if and when you’ve maximized your Shared Fate Rank in all Endwalker areas, the two Bicolor Gemstone Vendors found in Thavnair’s main city of Radz-at-Han (X:11.1, Y:10.2) and Old Sharlayan (X:12.7, 10.4) will also have Gaja Hide for sale for the same price.

Therefore, you can obtain Gaja Hide either by farming it from the Gaja creatures themselves, or if you can’t be bothered and have some spare Bicolor Gemstones, you can purchase as many as you need. Gaja Hide can be turned into Gaja Leather via the Leatherworker job (Disciple of Hand) which is then used to craft a variety of Level 81-85 gear and weapons. Other crafting jobs, such as Alchemist, Weaver, Carpenter, and Blacksmith, are required to make those gear items. And if you feel inclined to dive into leveling your crafting jobs, it’s important to know the best methods for boosting them.
