Black Ops 6 Dev Teases More Classic Map Remasters

Black Ops 6 Dev Teases More Classic Map Remasters

Key Takeaways

  • Treyarch’s Associate Creative Director teases more remasters as “no previous Black Ops title is off the table.”
  • The studio is still focused on delivering original designs for the majority of its post-launch maps.
  • Black Ops 6 only has two maps from previous entries, but others have already been discovered in-game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 developer Treyarch Studios has said no previous title in the Black Ops series is off the table when it comes to potential multiplayer map remasters. While fans often beg for classic maps to make a return, Treyarch’s Associate Creative Director Miles Leslie has said that the studio is focused on delivering original designs for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, but has seemingly teased that more remasters could be on the way in future seasons.

While Black Ops 6 has received rave reviews from critics and fans, its lackluster map pool has been a common complaint among Call of Duty players. Stakeout, which is a small, fast-paced map set in an apartment building in Avalon, is often the top choice for players, with other maps such as Babylon being heavily criticized for their awful spawn points. Treyarch did add everybody’s favorite Nuketown back into the mix shortly after launch, but the game’s original maps have led to more and more players begging Treyarch to bring back more of the classics.

Treyarch Teases More Remasters for Black Ops 6

Call of Duty‘s Season 1 Reloaded update has already brought back Hacienda from Black Ops 4, but it looks like even more remasters could be in the works at Treyarch. In a new interview with Dexerto, the studio’s Associate Creative Director Miles Leslie touched on the topic of map remasters and said that the developers “put a ton of consideration into the prospective remasters.” He then noted that Treyarch is aware that there are certain fan-favorite maps that players would like to see return, but said that the studio is focused on “delivering original designs” for the majority of Black Ops 6‘s post-launch maps. However, the good news is that Leslie went on to say that “no previous Black Ops title is off the table for potential remasters.”

Rumors have already been floating around about potential maps returning in Black Ops 6, with Launch from the original Black Ops becoming the latest name to be thrown into the mix. Fans have also already discovered an updated version of Courtyard from Call of Duty: World at War on the outskirts of the original Black Ops 6 map, Skyline, suggesting that the studio has already got its map remasters figured out. However, plans can always change behind the scenes, so the map’s discovery doesn’t necessarily mean it will be added to Black Ops 6.

There’s no confirmed release date for Black Ops 6‘s second season just yet, but it is expected to arrive sometime in January, likely adding even more weapons and maps into the mix. Despite the controversy surrounding the shooter’s maps, Black Ops 6‘s first season seems to have been a success for Treyarch, as Activision recently revealed that it has had the biggest launch in Call of Duty history. The publisher announced back in November that Black Ops 6‘s first 30 days of launch brought in the highest total players, hours played, and total matches in the franchise’s history.
