Key Takeaways
- Storm lacks power due to slow movement and low damage output, making her an unlikely pick in Marvel Rivals.
- Namor excels as a turret character but struggles in combat.
- Psylocke, a high-difficulty character, offers great mobility and precise damage, capable of dismantling enemy teams.
Just like the Avengers, the X-Men have always been iconic figures of the Marvel universe, bringing with them a unique blend of powers, personalities, and compelling stories. These mutant members – and their adversaries – have a strong presence in Marvel Rivals, as they elevate the roster with a select few characters whose abilities are as dynamic as their comic book counterparts.

Thanks to their unique abilities and passives, these Marvel Rivals characters can cross distances in the blink of an eye.
As players adapt to these powerful mutants, their potential to dominate matches becomes increasingly apparent. Whether they’re disrupting enemies with crowd control or delivering decisive blows, each mutant has a distinct role that can shift the tide of any confrontation. That being said, some are definitely more effective than others, and for players looking to be at the best of their game, it’s important to know which mutant has a better chance of winning their next match.
6 Storm
Lightning Without The Thunder
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975)
Even though Storm is classed as a Duelist, she offers a lot to her team in terms of buffs; if that was her focus entirely, and she was a Strategist, she might be more favorable, but in her current state, she’s an unlikely pick. She’s not all bad, as her Ultimate transforms her into a bustling tornado that damages enemies and terrain alike, but aside from that, she lacks any serious power.
Her faults lie primarily with her movement. She’s a slow-moving, aerial-based Duelist that doesn’t even deal that much damage, so if she gets involved in the battle, it’s likely she’ll get shot out of the sky much quicker than she’ll be able to kill the enemies instead. There’s probably a place for her in a well-coordinated team that would maximize the usage of her movement and damage boosts, but she has so many disadvantages that it’s doubtful.
5 Namor
Like A Fish Out Of Water
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 2/5
- First Appearance: Marvel Comics #1 (1939)
Almost every hero shooter has a turret character, and Marvel Rivals‘ is Namor. He can place down two Monstro octopi that deal damage at range, and when he hits an enemy with Wrath Of The Seven Seas, they’ll target them instead with an increased rate of fire. Unfortunately, these turrets don’t deal too much damage, though they can be mildly useful when defending an objective, since they give enemies something else to aim at.

For those just starting out in Marvel Rivals, here are easiest heroes for beginners to make use of.
Aside from his turrets, Namor is best played on the outskirts of combat, as his normal attack is a Trident that deals decent damage from range. It definitely compliments a defensive playstyle, but if he gets attacked by an enemy flanker, he can get isolated quite easily. Even his Ultimate is slightly underwhelming, as unless enemies are directly in the center of its radius, they won’t take full damage.
4 Wolverine
Lacks That Cutting Edge
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: The Incredible Hulk #181 (1974)
Perhaps the most popular mutant, Wolverine is a melee Duelist who’s tough to master. His whole kit revolves around him building up Rage, which speeds up and boosts the damage of his attacks the more he has accumulated. It’s built by dealing and taking damage, making it essential that Wolverine gets involved with combat as much as possible.
That can be fairly tough, though; with his base melee range and damage, he can often get eliminated by superior ranged characters before he’s had a chance to cement himself in the battle. In the right hands, Wolverine has the potential to be a serious threat, especially when his Rage has been maximized, but it’s hard to recommend playing him when there are quite simply better melee options in the current roster.
3 Magik
Master Of The Dark Arts
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: Giant-Sized X-Men (1975)
There’s a nice variety to Magik’s moveset and abilities in Marvel Rivals. They all revolve around her Soulsword, a large weapon that deals damage capable of targeting just one enemy or a whole group of them. The notable deficit to her weapon is its attack speed, which is fairly slow, but the fact that it can damage numerous enemies at once is a respectable counter for it.
Aside from just swinging her sword, Magik gets access to Stepping Discs, which let her teleport short distances. Upon exiting these portals, she can utilize several abilities, like a large cleave with her sword or summoning a Limbo demon that attacks enemies in front of it. Her Team-Up ability grants these discs to both Black Panther and Psylocke, allowing them to escape otherwise deadly encounters, making her a useful teammate, too.
2 Magneto
Use Shields To Repel Projectiles
- Class: Vanguard
- Difficulty: 2/5
- First Appearance: The X-Men #1 (1963)
Magneto is not only one of the best mutants in Marvel Rivals, but he’s also one of the best Vanguards in the game, too. He strikes a fine balance between dealing damage and supporting his team, though it’s the support where he truly shines. He can summon a large magnetic shield in front of him that blocks all incoming projectiles; unlike other shields in the game, this one relies on a cooldown instead of a health bar, providing Magneto with a unique level of defense (so long as the player manages the cooldown properly).
For those not by his side, Magneto can summon shields around both himself and individual players; the damage the shields suffer is transferred to metal rings on Magneto’s back, which transform into a powerful ranged attack. His Ultimate is also great for clearing objectives, as he hurls an iron meteor that deals massive damage upon impact.
1 Psylocke
Ninja Capable Of Stealthy Flanks
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 5/5
- First Appearance: Captain Britain #8 (1976)
Psylocke might be difficult to learn at first, but any player who takes the time to master her moveset will be rewarded with one of the best Duelists in the game. She’s excellent at getting behind enemy frontlines with her Psychic Stealth and ambushing the backline with her Psionic Crossbow. The damage is quick and precise, and with each successful hit, her other cooldowns are gradually reduced.
