Even though the speedrunning DLC levels have all been added, Astro Bot fans had a sneaking suspicion that there was still more to come. That suspicion has now been confirmed as PlayStation and Team Asobi have revealed Astro Bot’s next DLC will be a whole new Christmas-themed level, and you don’t have long to wait to play it.
The reveal was made via a PlayStation Blog post on Wednesday in which the devs behind the potential Game of the Year winner labeled the new level a thank you for all the love and appreciation players have shown their game since its launch in September. A sneak peek at the new level, which is called Winter Wonder, shows Astro running through baubles to further demonstrate the game’s particle physics, and a cutaway from a big gold gift he’s trying to open right before you’re shown what’s inside.

I’m assuming what’s waiting inside is a shiny new bot as the blog post confirms Winter Wonder will bring even more new characters to save and collect to the game. Team Asobi stopped short of noting whether the new bots will be more generic ones that look like Astro, or if they will be based on characters from other series and games.

Since there are still some notable characters missing from the bots you need to save in Astro Bot, I’m assuming Winter Wonder will have at least a few more cameo appearances. Eagle-eyed Astro players quickly picked up on Ubisoft being thanked in the game’s credits, yet there have still been no Ubisoft bots to rescue. Rayman and Assassin’s Creed are both mentioned by name, so perhaps we might get them as early Christmas gifts in tomorrow’s update.
If you like the look of Winter Wonder but you’ve been dragging your feet when it comes to completing Astro Bot, you best get to work this evening. Even though the Winter Wonder level will be free DLC for everyone who owns the game, the new level won’t unlock until you have completed the main campaign.
Team Asobi also notes that this isn’t a challenging speedrun level like the other Astro Bot DLC to have come before it. It’s a new level in keeping with most of the others in the game that’s intended for Astro Bot players of all ages and skill levels. The level will unlock for anyone who has finished the campaign at 9 pm EST on December 12, 2024.
