Assassin’s Creed Shadows “Canon Mode” Will Make Story Decisions For You

Assassin's Creed Shadows "Canon Mode" Will Make Story Decisions For You

Summary

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows will offer players a “canon mode” for those who don’t like branching dialogue options.
  • This mode will make choices for you throughout the game, though you will still be able to pick which allies you recruit and who you romance.

Assassin’s Creed is an RPG series now, whether we like it or not. It’s been heading in that direction for the past few entries, and even though Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks like its bringing back a lot of elements from older games, it’s still going to be an RPG along the same lines as Odyssey and Valhalla.

A lot of people aren’t huge fans of the features that come with being an RPG, such as branching dialogue trees that allow you to roleplay the versions of characters that you desire. Sometimes, people just want a story that they can sit down with and play through without having to worry about whether other dialogue choices could have resulted in a different, more preferable, outcome.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

Thankfully, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is attempting to give players the option to reduce some of the game’s RPG elements. Creative director Jonathan Dumont recently revealed in a Reddit AMA (thanks GamesRadar) that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature a “canon mode” that players can switch on at the start of the game that will make choices for you.

“Since the fan base is divided on branching dialogues, we have incorporated an option called CANON MODE which allows you to play the game with choices already made for you, to give you a choice free experience. Hope this makes it fun for everyone.”

Dumont stresses that the choices themselves won’t play as big of a part in the events of Assassin’s Creed Shadows as they did in the likes of Odyssey, and that you will still have options to recruit certain characters and engage in whatever romances you wish. This sounds like a simple mode that will just get rid of dialogue choices, allowing you to have a less stressful time during conversations.

It’s obviously not going to be a mode that everyone will enjoy, as many actually like the RPG elements of the Assassin’s Creed games, getting to mold the personality of characters like Cassandra and Eivor however they please, but it’s a nice option to have. We’ll see how in-depth this mode is when the game launches in February next year, among a sea of other high-profile Triple-A games.
