A new update for Black Myth: Wukong is rolling out right now. Black Myth: Wukong launched earlier this year to mostly positive reviews and a staggering number of sales. Black Myth: Wukong smashed sales expectations, broke records, and stands as one of 2024’s best-selling video games. Considering the dizzying success of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science could have left the game as it was at launch, but it has instead released multiple post-launch updates.
Black Myth: Wukong updates have mainly focused on lingering bugs and boss balance. These updates have no doubt been appreciated by the Black Myth: Wukong community, but some fans of the game may be looking for something more substantial to draw them back in. Luckily, the latest Black Myth: Wukong update may be exactly what they’re looking for.

Black Myth: Wukong update 1.0.12.16581 adds a new Challenge mode that players can access when they visit a Keeper’s Shrine in the game. This Challenge mode is split into two categories: Return of Rivals and Gauntlet of Legends. In Return of Rivals, players are able to fight a boss they’ve already defeated with three difficulty levels to choose from. Gauntlet of Legends, meanwhile, has players fighting multiple bosses in a row, with players able to tailor the difficulty through customized curses. The patch notes warn that some of the Black Myth: Wukong bosses fought in Gauntlet of Legends will have new attacks, so even hardcore fans with multiple playthroughs under their belt may have some trouble.
Those that manage to conquer Black Myth: Wukong‘s bosses in the Gauntlet of Legends will have the chance to unlock treasures including the Glimmering Scale Pellets and their formula, Sour Wine, Frost-Enduring Chrysanth, Robust Antler, Stone Tiger Tally, Ever-Burning Palace Lantern, Fragment of the Ocean-Setlling Pillar, Three Hill Crown, Qing Mallet, Fanged Cyan Staff, and Leeching Centipede Staff. The new Armor Set of Opulence is also available, though players can simply claim it at a Keeper’s Shrine.
That’s not all. The new Black Myth: Wukong update has also added the Journeyer’s Chart, which allows players to capture landscapes into charts “for guidance and marking.” Players unlock this chart after meeting the Keeper at Black Wind Mountain. Every time they reach a new territory, players will be able to purchase the corresponding Journeyer’s Chart at a Keeper’s Shrine.
Along with this new content, a bunch of Black Myth: Wukong bugs have been squashed in the latest update. Fans can expect more updates to be released for the game in the future, and there’s also the expectation that Black Myth: Wukong paid DLC is on the way as well.
