Why Dead by Daylight’s Teamwork Perks Face a Slippery Slope

Why Dead by Daylight's Teamwork Perks Face a Slippery Slope

Teamwork perks have barely been touched upon in Dead by Daylight, but their future already looks uncertain due to a few circumstances. Granted, not every perk in Dead by Daylight is going to be relevant in the meta. Considering the sheer amount of perks, that would be impossible. However, Teamwork perks come with a few drawbacks that hold them back compared to almost all other Survivor perks. At the very least, they have a few issues that need to be ironed out; at worst, Dead by Daylight may not end up putting out any more Teamwork perks.

Introduced in Dead by Daylight‘s Tools of Torment update, Teamwork perks are one of the rarest types in the game, with only two existing so far. Those perks are Teamwork: Collective Stealth and Teamwork: Power of Two. It should be noted that both of these perks came out with Tools of Torment, with no other Teamwork perks being introduced since. Seeing as it has now been over a year since any Teamwork perks were released, their place in the game may be in a shaky position.

There are also only two Invocation perks and not only are Invocations newer but the second one released in the latest chapter.

Dead by Daylight’s Two Teamwork Perks Have Some Major Problems

Dead by Daylight’s Teamwork Perks are Cumbersome to Use

One prominent flaw of Teamwork perk design in Dead by Daylight is their activation requirements. Collective Stealth requires the user to be healed by someone else, while Power of two requires the user to successfully heal someone. Not only that, but the perk effects only remain in place as long as the user and the other person involved remain near each other. The actual effects, hiding scratch marks and a haste bonus, respectively, are decent, but not strong enough to offset the steep requirements. At the moment, both Teamwork perks are completely outclassed by other perks with similar effects.

Teamwork Perks Need a Rework to Be More Efficient

Some serious reworks may need to be done in Dead by Daylight‘s future in order to Teamwork perks to become relevant. Specifically, both of their requirements combined are far too restrictive. One possibility is for the perks to trigger a temporary boost that isn’t restricted by proximity, while another option is to have an effect similar to Dwight’s Leader perk, having a good effect that only works within a small radius to balance it out. Future Teamwork perks, as well as reworks of the first two, could take this into account. By doing so, they may have a chance to become more widely used.

Survivor Lore Could Make Finding New Teamwork Perks Harder

Teamwork perks face another obstacle unrelated to gameplay, and that is the backstories of Dead by Daylight‘s Survivors. The Survivors who came with the Teamwork perks, Renato and Thalita, were brother and sister and it makes sense that they would have at least one perk that revolves around working together. Another Teamwork perk would likely require another duo of Survivors or a Survivor who has a backstory involving working as a team or having tight bonds with others. Otherwise, such a perk may feel out of place. It’s an unexpected complication, but one that makes Teamwork perks somewhat hard to place on new Survivors.

Among Dead by Daylight‘s perk types, they are likely the most overlooked because they don’t stand out in any way. They aren’t plentiful, and any niche role they might have is overshadowed by less situational perks. That said, future Teamwork perks will definitely need a change in design to have any impact in Dead by Daylight.
