Surprise new Cyberpunk 2077 update adds countless customization options

It’s time to go back to Night City. CD Projekt Red has detailed everything included in its surprise Cyberpunk 2077 2.2 update, and it’s all about expression and customization. Systems like cars, photo mode, and the character creator all see an upgrade with even more options. Best of all, 2.2 is live right now.

While we all originally thought that Cyberpunk 2077 2.1 marked the end of CD Projekt Red’s RPG, there was still hope the dev would return to bring new additions and improvements. Game director Gabe Amatangelo even said they’d be happy to return to Cyberpunk 2077 in the future. CDPR has worked with Virtuos to add a host of new options, and it takes Cyberpunk’s customization features to a whole new level.

To start, the update overhauls car customization. You can change the color, saturation, and visual scheme of your car’s design, giving you the best ride in all of Night City. Cars now also benefit from a twintone option. This means that you can scan cars while driving around the city and emulate their paint jobs for your own ride. This is then saved in your database and can be applied to all your owned cars. Changing your car’s color mid-chase can even help you escape the law that bit quicker – just like getting a paint job in GTA.

The Auto Fixer also has ten new cars to purchase. Eight belong to the base game and two to Phantom Liberty, but either way, you’ll have even more vehicles to cruise the streets in. Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand can even spawn in your car as a passenger now, and he’ll react if you stare at him for too long.

The game’s photo mode also gets an upgrade, with the camera function seeing some improvements, and there’s even a new drone mode to help you take pics from the air. You can also spawn up to three lights at once to completely change the scene’s lighting or spawn multiple NPCs for some group pics.

It doesn’t end there, though, as the character customization options also enjoy a big upgrade. There are new eyes, nails, and other personalization options to pick. There are also new faceplates to use if you want your character to look like they belong to certain gangs or corporations. CDPR says there are over 100 new customization options in total.

The Cyberpunk 2077 2.2 update is live on all platforms right now. You can check out the full patch notes here.

I loved CD Projekt Red’s reinvention of the game in my Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty review, so I’ll take any excuse to give it another go.
