@darthv72 Yes, the technological advances we experience are iterative now. However, I suspect there is going to be one more revolution to come and it has to do with… game creation using AI tools.
Now, at this stage for many gamers AI is a dirty word, but there are some innovations to take note off; one is a tool that can take 2D images and turn them into an explorable 3D world. https://www.youtube.com/wat… Practically it has no use now, but in the future it means that levels and worlds may be able to be made quicker, and it may offer anyone without programming experience the ability to easily make games. Perhaps, Unreal Engine 7 will be targeted at creative children. In the near-term maybe this won’t happen, but within a decade I’m sure there will be AI tools for game creation.
I love the ST:TNG holdback idea, but that requires visually creating an interactive environment in the real world – I’m sure it will happen but that’s for the distant future. The best equivalent we can hope for in the near-term is easy to use VR. I bought PSVR2 and played it for a bit but ultimately decided to send it back. Besides some of the gimmicky games, the main reason was because it feels like too much effort to get started to play a game, eg adjusting the headset physically and its settings. VR will keep improving. When the time comes that VR is just a lightweight pair of glasses that need no adjusting, then it will become mainstream and everyone can look forward to using it with Elder Scrolls VI, when it’s released.
