How to Play Rocket Raccoon

How to Play Rocket Raccoon

Like many online hero shooters, playing with healers or Strategists in the case of Marvel Rivals is essential to the overall success of the team. And, with six to choose from, it can be tough to decide who to start out with when you get into your first match. Rocket Raccoon is not only one of the most recognizable faces on the roster but also one of the best heroes to start out with for beginners.

He’s got a ton of mobility and utility, and he doesn’t focus solely on healing, which makes him a great choice for anyone who wants to help out with healing but still wants the ability to defend themselves. Rocket can be overwhelming to start with simply because of his sheer number of abilities, but, once you understand the basics, he’s an absolute breeze and a lot of fun to handle in fights.

Tips and Tricks for Playing Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals

marvel-rivals-rocket-raccoon-abilities

Rocket is considered a one-star difficulty hero in Marvel Rivals, but that doesn’t mean he’s only useful for beginner-level players. Wild Crawl and Jetpack Dash make him incredibly difficult to take down, and his B.R.B ability and C.Y.A Ultimate make him a massive boon to have in most team compositions. Additionally, his healing spheres can always ensure that the team has healing to fall back to, as they travel quickly wherever you shoot them and can heal multiple allies at once.

His main drawback is that he doesn’t do an insane amount of damage, so Bombard Mode is only really good for when you’re trying to finish off enemies that are trying to escape the fight. And, if you’re not teamed up with Punisher or Winter Soldier, it can be difficult to get value out of Ammo Invention. Nonetheless, here are some tips and tricks to keep in mind when you try him out:

Focus on Healing

Since Rocket’s normal damage attack isn’t great, you’re only going to want to keep it for when you see an enemy is on low health and your teammates are struggling to finish them off. Despite the low damage, the gun has a pretty good range, meaning that you can take down low enemies from afar who are trying to escape or have high mobility and are difficult for other team members to focus on.

However, overall, you should focus on using his healing spheres in the fight. You can pretty much spam them toward your teammates to keep them healed up at all times, and the spheres also heal Rocket himself – which is particularly useful when you’re trying to deal with flankers. While waiting for cooldown on his other abilities, this is the best way to get value from Rocket in the team fight.

Utilize Rocket’s Mobility

Rocket’s biggest strength is his mobility, and this is important because it keeps him alive much longer to ensure that his teammates get to see another fight as well. Particularly, his Jetpack Dash coupled with his already-small character model will make it incredibly difficult for any flankers to try and hit you, and with a fairly low cooldown, you can pretty much zip around the map constantly to avoid incoming damage.

Before the first fight, try and take a moment to also identify high-ground spots that you can escape to when things get a bit dicey. Wild Crawl will allow you to escape to higher ground, which many enemy heroes won’t be able to compensate for, and you’ll still be able to heal your team from afar. This mobility means that, unlike some other Strategists, you can still stay pretty far away from your team, heal them, and make an escape when you need to.

Vanguards are the Tank hero class of Marvel Rivals, protecting the team and taking space. Here’s which heroes are the best in this role.

Team Up With Groot, Punisher, and Winter Soldier

Rocket functions incredibly well in his Team-Ups, particularly when using Ammo Invention with Punisher and Winter Soldier as the ability provides an incredible amount of firepower which can mean the difference between a won and lost fight. Groot still provides a good Team-Up as well, as you can ride on his shoulders to receive a damage reduction from incoming fire – you just need to trust your Groot to make the right rotations so you can still effectively heal the team.

Throw B.R.B in Covered Positions

The Battle Rebirth Beacon has a few different uses, but its most effective is that it can bring a teammate back into the fight. The main thing to keep in mind with this beacon, however, is that it can get destroyed by the enemy team. This will not only cancel the revive, but also reset the cooldown, so you still need to wait until you can use it again. As such, it’s incredibly important to make sure that you’re throwing it in appropriate cover to protect it from enemy fire but still in range of your team so you can get the revive off.

Strategically Use the Cosmic Yarn Amplifier

Lastly, make sure you’re using his Ultimate C.Y.A correctly, as this is his strongest ability in Marvel Rivals to turn the tide in fights. It damage boosts the entire team, extending his Ammo Invention synergy with Winter Soldier and Punisher to the whole team and making it easier to take down enemies, but it can also go to waste if you don’t use it properly.

For example, make sure that all or most of your teammates are still alive and in the fight before using it. If they’re mostly coming back from spawn, then it will be difficult to get the value you need out of C.Y.A. Additionally, make sure that you don’t use it while another Strategist like Luna Snow is using their Ultimate, because it will negate the damage boost your team is receiving.
