AV and DV are two important stats that you can increase in Caves of Qud. Here, you can learn the differences between the two.
What exactly is Neutron Flux though? In this guide, we are going to cover what this is, as well as how you can get some. Overall, this item is extremely dangerous and if it happens to cause your death, you’ll get the achievement called Starry Demise, which can also be obtained by taking damage in a large explosion.
What Is Neutron Flux?
Neutron Flux is a liquid that has both benefits and consequences if used wrong. The main use for using Neutron Flux is cooking. By cooking with it, you will have a chance to permanently gain one AV. The downside to this is that there is a ten percent chance of instant death.
While using Neutron Flux, there are a lot of situations in which it can just explode. Below, you can see some of the main things that cause it to explode.
- Drinking Neutron Flux
- Pouring Neutron Flux onto the ground, a creature, or into another liquid (including more Neutron Flux)
- Pouring Neutron Flux that is not in a Magnetic Bottle into something that is not a Magnetic Bottle
- Pouring Neutron Flux that is in a Magnetic Bottle into anything besides a Phial
- Holding Neutron Flux in a Magnetic Bottle that runs out of charge
When the Neutron Flux does explode, it will cause a lot of damage, but not instant death. Of course, the explosion can deal enough damage to kill you or enemies, but it doesn’t trigger automatic death.
Neutron Flux will not explode when pouring from any container into a Magnetic Bottle.
You can use this explosion to your advantage if you are careful. For example, by keeping the Neutron Flux in a Phial, you’ll be able to throw it, which causes an immediate explosion as it hits the ground.
How To Get Neutron Flux
If the effects of Neutron Flux didn’t scare you off, there are a few ways to obtain it. Firstly, the Alchemist in Bethesda Susa is guaranteed to sell it. This is a merchant that sells a wide variety of phials, including some that hold simple things like salt or wine. You can also purchase empty phials here.
To reach this merchant, you’ll need to travel to the Ruined Ward in Bethesda Susa, which starts at the sixth strata down. On the eighth strata, you can find the Alchemist’s workshop. If you speak to this NPC for the first time, you’ll also get an achievement called Quiet This Metal.
Some other merchants in the world will rarely have Neutron Flux for sale. This includes dromad traders, chefs, ichor merchants, and kippers. When you run into one of these merchants, be sure to interact with them to see what ware they have for sale.
Merchant stock refreshes occasionally. If one of these vendors does not have Neutron Flux for sale, come back in the future. When you enter back into the area with the merchant, you may see a message stating that their shop has been restocked.
Lastly, you can get a Phial of Neutron Flux by completing the questline in Bey Lah. Here, you’ll be tasked with settling the dispute. During this quest, you’ll be asked to accuse a thief based on different motives. If you accuse Askhind with the motive of illness, then you will receive one Phial of Neutron Flux.
