Cyberpunk 2077 Lead Says Fixing The Game Made Them "Stronger"

Key Takeaways

  • It’s Cyberpunk 2077’s fourth anniversary.
  • Lead quest designer Paweł Sasko reflected on his time working on the game post-release.
  • Patch 2.2 is on the way, bringing even more improvements.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of Cyberpunk 2077 and its well-documented disastrous launch. At the time, it was a black spot on CD Projekt Red‘s otherwise impeccable reputation. In the years since, the development team has worked hard to mould Cyberpunk into an amazing experience, with many players now regarding the game as one of the all-time greats of the RPG genre.

In recognition of the hard work the team has put in over the years, lead quest designer Paweł Sasko posted on social media, speaking about his own experience working on the game post-launch.

A Long Road

“Thank you for an incredible 4 years chooms,” he writes. “You have been an amazing support and motivation, a reason of this whole journey. It was quite different than I anticipated, the path was f**king hard. It was so damn easy to give up, but for the whole team in CD Projekt and our players, it was worth it to keep going. We are so much stronger today. I am so much stronger. Thank you for everything my dears.”

It’s certainly been a long road for Cyberpunk 2077, but CD Projekt Red felt it was imperative to keep a sizeable team working on the game to bring the game up to the standard the studio is known for. After the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion last year, Cyberpunk’s revival was complete.

In an interview with Phantom Liberty quest designer Maria Mazur, she told us “the process of creating Phantom Liberty was how would have wanted to do Cyberpunk.” Essentially, the team had years of additional development under their belts and finally figured out the best processes for creating Cyberpunk 2077.

Or so we thought, CD Projekt Red unexpectedly announced Patch 2.2 in combination with the game’s fourth anniversary. Details of the patch are set to be released during an anniversary livestream.

Developed by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person action role-playing game based on the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG. You must choose your path through life in the lawless Night City, while contending with the memories of Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves).
