The war against Skynet rages ever onward. While the last movie failed to light up the box office, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance has proven there’s life yet in the battle between man and machine. The first DLC has just arrived, letting you step into the role of computer hivemind Legion to eradicate humans once and for all.
Arriving no less than five years after the film on which it’s derived, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is actually the first strategy game set in the universe to land on PC. Since launching in February, it’s enjoyed a warm reception, and now it’s becoming even bigger with a new campaign and a variety of strategic additions.
The We are Legion DLC does what it says on the chrome: add Legion as a playable army, complete with a set of single-player missions from the machine’s perspective. On top of that, Legion vehicles and weapons have been improved and modified to make blowing up humans even better in the RTS game.
On a broader level, the army controls have become deeper and more intuitive, introducing some tactical approaches that were unavailable before. In general, it’s a robust addition to Defiance, improving on what’s already a better game than you might think given it’s a tie-in. (In case you’re wondering, Legion is Skynet’s replacement, made after Sarah Connor successfully stopped the latter on Judgment Day.)
We’ve had some decent Terminator games throughout the years, mostly in the FPS and action game spaces. Two mobile strategy releases precede Defiance – one for Termiantor: Genisys in 2015 and another for Dark Fate in 2019, that one simply titled Dark Fate – The Game.
Both got a mixed reaction and faded away soon after coming out. Defiance is doing much better, and Slitherine Software seems to have good direction for ways to add and improve the experience, going by this DLC. Between this and Terminator Zero on Netflix, mankind’s best chance against the T-1000 might be away from the silver screen.
