One day, Command and Conquer will return in earnest. The classic days of Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert will rise again, the dreaded Obelisks and Tesla Coils will rear their heads, and the greatest RTS series in history will reclaim the throne. But until then, Broken Arrow is keeping the legacy of C&C alive, and giving Westwood’s genre icon some serious competition. A realistic milsim and strategy game, after an enormously successful beta period, it’s currently the most wishlisted upcoming release of its kind on Steam – and now we have a much better idea of when Broken Arrow will finally arrive. If you want a rival to War Thunder or a complement to Command and Conquer, this is the one.
An RTS game and military simulator, Broken Arrow takes place during a fictional conflict between the US and Russia. Within these two overarching factions, you can control and manage five different subgroups, including land, sea, and airborne forces. There are more than 300 different units, all of which can be upgraded and customized. You can also combine units to create unique, specialized armies. Take your strongest infantry division, tie it onto your best-armored corps, and support them with helicopters and jets.
But it’s the maps that really make Broken Arrow. Enormous and detailed, they vary between vast, open battlefields and dense, difficult-to-navigate urban centers. At its best, the strategy game becomes a combination of large-scale warfare and street-level, close-quarters house-to-house fighting, a hybrid of traditional RTS gameplay with the smaller-scale tactics of Company of Heroes or XCOM 2. More than half a million players participated in the latest Broken Arrow beta. Currently, it’s number 29 on the global Steam wishlist chart, above genre rivals like Tempest Rising and Falling Frontier.
And now we know, roughly, when it will hit PC. The Broken Arrow launch window is confirmed for June 2025. Developer Steel Balalaika also confirms that the custom scenario editor will be available to try during the next open beta. We’ll keep you posted when that arrives. In the meantime, if you want to wishlist Broken Arrow, just head here.
