Black Ops 6 Zombies: Best Field Upgrades

Field Upgrades can easily save the life of an Operator a teammate in Black Ops 6 Zombies, and as players earn their Field Upgrade through killing the undead hordes, they can use it to see a temporary advantage in how they fight, or as a means to escape certain death.

Upon the release of Black Ops 6, there are 5 Field Upgrades in the Zombies mode, and each of them has a unique advantage upon use. However, there are some Field Upgrades that can be better utilized to become superior to the others out there, and here are the best Field Upgrades for Black Ops 6 Zombies.

Updated on December 9, 2024, by Jake Fillery: With the arrival of Citadelle des Morts, players have a new arsenal to play around with inside the map thanks to powerful abilities in their loadouts. With the introduction of Tesla Storm to Black Ops 6 Zombies, players might want to know how it ranks against the other Field Upgrades to provide the best ranking of every Field Upgrade in Black Ops 6 Zombies so that players can fight against the undead hordes for hours with as little struggle as possible.

6 Energy Mine

Spawn a Mine That Deals Damage to Zombies

energy mine

  • Create a mine of pure energy that detonates 3 times, dealing lethal electric damage.
  • Unlocked automatically at Level 1

Energy Mine will be the first Field Upgrade that Black Ops 6 Zombies players will have access to, and it’s certainly not the best. It’s nice in early rounds to have a competent minefield that will stun and kill most zombies in the train, but there’s a catch.

Requiem has some dark dealings with the Black Ops 6 Zombies storyline, but what of every member involved, whether loyal to Richtofen or otherwise?

The Energy Mine has a slow impact timer, and the mine of pure energy may detonate 3 times for lethal electric damage, but if players are cornered then by the time they pull out the Energy Mine, it’s already too late.

5 Healing Aura

Heal All Players Within the Vicinity

healing aura

  • Heal all nearby players immediately.
  • Unlocked at Level 33

Healing Aura will restore the entire health of all players as soon as it’s activated, but only if they are close by. This can be used like a Stim Shot, one of the better tactical equipment pieces, but it also suffers from the fact that the healing done can be reversed in just a few hits.

Best reserved for boss fights, the Healing Aura doesn’t serve much of a purpose for allies because the maps are great and large, meaning players aren’t huddled together to keep each other healed. On top of that, without armor, health is effectively useless as on high rounds players will go down within 4 or fewer hits, especially with the invasion of Manglers.

4 Dark Flare

Fire a Powerful Energy Beam

dark flare

  • Generate an energy beam that deals lethal shadow damage and penetrates everything in its path.
  • Unlocked at Level 20

Dark Flare is the new Black Ops 6 Field Upgrade, since the others are making grand returns. This new Field Upgrade does make a splash thanks to its wave of damage emitted from the purple beam, which will penetrate zombies like the main firing mode of the Beamsmasher, but also disintegrate them into ash.

The Dark Flare Field Upgrade does a decent amount of damage, even on high rounds, and it can be used to fire consistently when players are running low on ammo supplies. Sadly, it doesn’t have the stopping power to help allies out of a sticky situation.

3 Tesla Storm

Stun and Damage Zombies with an Electrical Field

tesla storm

  • For 10 seconds lightning connects to other players, stunning and damaging normal enemies.
  • Unlocked via the Merry Mayhem Event

Tesla Storm might not seem like the most powerful out of the bunch, but there’s definitely a neat gimmick waiting inside its electrical current. Tesla Storm will allow players to generate a field of electrical energy that surrounds them, and can even bind to other players for further deadly effects that will shock and even kill other zombies.

The true talent with Tesla Storm lies within its ability to stun zombies, as any rotting flesh bag that dares to get too close to the player with an active Tesla Storm will be stunned away, essentially providing players with a 10-second shield where they can only take damage from ranged attacks and Special/Elite units.

2 Aether Shroud

Become Completely Invisible to Zombies

aether shroud

  • Phase into the Dark Aether and become temporarily hidden from enemy detection.
  • Unlocked at Level 47

Aether Shroud is a classic from Black Ops Cold War, and its return is greatly appreciated for players who don’t like being backed into a corner. When activating Aether Shroud, players will phase into the Dark Aether, which grants them temporary immunity and invisibility from the zombie armies.

Zombies have been essential to the DNA of Treyarch’s Call of Duty titles since World at War, but how do the Black Ops games rank them?

Aether Shroud allows players to navigate around the map undetected, and zombies will even ignore them even when getting shot. Aether Shroud is great for being trapped, needing to resupply, reviving an ally, or surviving main quest steps that require timed activity. Aether Shroud also greatly benefits from co-op play, as players can activate it together to make sure all allies are invisible, and that they can focus purely on damaging the boss while it remains unaware of their presence.

1 Frenzied Guard

Repair Armor with Every Kill, and Armor Mitigates All Damage

frenzied guard

  • Repair armor to full and force all enemies in the area to temporarily target you. Armor takes all damage during this time.
  • Unlocked at Level 9

Frenzied Guard is overpowered, especially with the right Augments. With Frenzied Guard active, the player’s armor will instantly return, and during its activity, every damage dealt by zombies will be absorbed by the armor and not by their health, effectively granting invincibility for a short while.

The only drawback is that Frenzied Guard makes all enemies target the player who has activated it, but that’s even better with the right guns equipped, as players can go on a killing spree against zombies, with each kill furthering the gains of the armor.
