Even with all the action and mechanic-heavy additions to Path of Exile 2, loot is still the name of the game. Getting better gear is often the best solution for when you’re having trouble clearing content, but it’s not necessarily an easy thing to do, especially early on.
A good set of gear can carry you through seemingly impossible fights even without enough Weapon Set Points in PoE 2. However, gearing up is going to be a challenge, and if you’re struggling to make progress, here are a few places you can farm for better equipment.

Players have four resistances in Path of Exile 2; here are which ones you need to focus on upgrading.
Early Game Gear Farming in POE 2
The best way to farm early game gear is to repeatedly fight bosses. Gearing up for the first few acts is going to be tough. Drop rates for equipment are low, and even more so for crafting materials like Orbs of Alchemy, Blacksmith’s Whetstones, and more, which is great if you want to set yourself up for PoE 2’s trading scene in the future. Bosses have a better chance of dropping these items, though, and luckily, players can farm minor ones as many times as they like.
How to Reset Instances and Farm Bosses
You can reset a map instance by doing the following:
- Interact with a Waypoint.
- Select the area you want to reset, then press Ctrl+Left Click (Hold A or X on controller).
- Select a new instance from the window that pops up.
Resetting an instance will re-roll the entire zone, refreshing enemy and chest spawns while randomizing the map’s layout. This will also cause certain bosses to respawn, giving you a shot at getting better equipment.
Where to Farm Gear Early
There are a couple of good places in Act I and II where players can farm for gear. If you hit a progression wall (like a particularly difficult boss or zone that’s too high-level), then your best bet is to farm these two areas and bosses.
Act I – Draven (Mausoleum of the Praetor)
The ghost of Praetor Draven is difficult at first, but he becomes very easy to beat once you memorize his moveset (and even more so if you have overleveled gear). However, the main attraction in the Mausoleum of the Praetor isn’t actually Draven — it’s the secret treasure horde within.
As you’re exploring the Mausoleum, you may stumble upon the Forgotten Riches point of interest — it’s a room with a pair of coffins and a statue. To open the treasure horde, look for a switch on one of the pillars. Inside is roughly 400 Gold and chests that may contain good loot. If there is no switch, reset the instance and try again.
We only recommend this if you’re truly having trouble progressing through Act 1. You may have better luck getting money and loot by beating up monsters in the Count’s Manor instead.
Act II – Rudja, the Dread Engineer (Mawdun Mine)
During the second act of the main questline, you’ll find yourself in the Mawdun Mine. This place is great for two reasons: the Miner enemies have a chance of dropping Blacksmith’s Whetstones and Armorer’s Scraps, and the path to the area boss Rudja is often easy to reach.
Rudja can be a little tricky to fight thanks to her one swinging melee attack that deals massive damage. However, she has a decent chance of dropping yellow items as well as rare materials like Exalted Orbs, Regal Orbs, and other valuable PoE 2 currencies. Regal Orbs are used to upgrade items to Rare (yellow) tier, while Exalted Orbs give Rare items an extra random affix.
