Key Takeaways
- Don’t waste gold on Potion Flasks, as they’re easy to find while playing.
- Basic Magic Items from vendors are overpriced and low priority for purchase.
- Gambling on Belts is not worth it, as Unique Belts are rare and not very beneficial.
Path of Exile 2 is all the rage among fans of hack-and-slash games. Many are thinking about the best approach to play it, even more so if they’re beginners. And like in every game of this style, there are items that are valuable to keep and those that players are better off getting rid of.
On that note, certain items are also worth precious gold and will come in handy during your adventures. But there are certain things players should not buy from merchants. Read on to learn what items those are, and the reasons why they’re a waste of money.

5 Potion Flasks
They’re All Over The Place
Things have changed in Path Of Exile 2. Players no longer need to carry four potions in their belts, since there are only two fixed slots now: one for mana and one for life. Potions have become less complex in PoE 2, but watch out. Buying new Flasks from vendors, even if they seem like they’re better, is a poor choice. Wasting money on these items might become a hindrance in the long run, since there are better options out there waiting to be found.

Path of Exile 2: How to Change Movement Input
Path of Exile 2 offers players the choice between WASD and Left-Click to move as movement input methods. Here’s how to switch between them.
Flasks are some of the most common Magic (and Rare) items players might stumble upon, and they offer various buffs depending on the RNG factor. Exploring the world and slaying some monsters until they drop one or two of these Potion Flasks is a better idea than wasting precious gold on them. In addition, the stats that vendor items offer are also bound to RNG, and they are unlikely to be better than those of the dropped items.
4 Basic Magic Items
Overpriced, And Bottom Of The Priority List
Renly and Una have a constantly renewing supply of Magic Items, and some might even be Rare. But if players think it’s a good idea to invest in these items, think again. Spending hard-earned gold on these poorly optimized items will do players no good. It’s better to save it for the late/end game stages, where gold is necessary to optimize the build.
It is true that players might come across a good item when browsing a merchant’s inventory, but even if they do, buying a rare ring with three modifiers for 6500 gold is never a good idea. What if, after doing it, the player finds a better one after killing a monster, opening a chest, or slaying a boss? They will instantly regret spending so much gold. The RNG doesn’t always work in the player’s favor, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
There’s A Free Identify Service
Scrolls of Wisdom are useful items. They might seem like a good investment at first, and they’re not too expensive to begin with. Each scroll costs 25 gold at Una’s shop, but it’s not such a good idea to buy these when there’s a better option. As players advance in their adventure, they will come across a quest that will naturally unlock a free Identify NPC named The Hooded One.
Once they unlock this NPC, identifying items becomes much easier, and to top it off, the service is free. Buying unnecessary Scrolls of Wisdom is a waste of gold, even if it means players will need to go back and forth between the field and the safe zone to identify their finds and sell the loot. Think about saving gold as a long-term investment. In the endgame, there’s a huge demand for this currency, especially if players want to optimize their build. Save that Scroll money and use the free service instead.
2 Basic Charms
Get Better Ones By Exploring & Questing
Charms are special items that can be attached to belts and protect characters from certain ailments. Purchasing Basic Charms from vendors might sound like a good idea at first. These items are quite scarce, and players don’t come across many options to include in their builds. But, as things turn out, these items are tremendously expensive, and can cost between 1000 gold to 3500 or more. Wasting gold on these Basic Magic items is a bad choice, mostly because their stats are not that great to begin with.

Instead, try to complete as many side-quests and sub-bosses as possible. Each map has its own secrets and additional objectives, and even more sub-quests that players can take to obtain more loot. Among this loot, there’s a chance to receive certain Charms that will be way better than those purchased from the vendors.
1 Gamble Belts
There Are Only A Few Unique Belts
Gambling for items has been a part of hack-and-slash games for quite a while now, and Path Of Exile 2 takes it to a whole new level. The merciless RNG of its predecessor seems to have come back for revenge, and players are already suffering the consequences.
Among all the gambling items players might feel the need to purchase, Belts are among the worst possible choices. Currently, there are only a few known Unique Belts in the game. Gambling away gold in Belts is a bad idea, due to the low probability of getting one of these three. Plus, the bonuses they grant are not so good compared to other Rare Belts players might come across. At the end of the day, it is a bad choice for players to waste money on this gambling item hoping that the RNG favors them.
