The Strongest Female Characters In Ubisoft Games

The Strongest Female Characters In Ubisoft Games

Key Takeaways

  • Lara Croft showcases strength as both a combatant and explorer, making her an iconic figure across gaming history.
  • Phoenix, a character in
    Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
, possesses powerful cosmic and psionic abilities unmatched in the Marvel universe.
  • Kay Vess from
    Star Wars Outlaws
embodies grit and skill, navigating a tough environment with guile and overcoming adversaries.

There are many barometers by which strength can be measured. The power to dispense with foes in hand-to-hand combat and the mental resiliency required to endure adversity both define a character as strong. When it comes to video games, that runs the gamut anywhere from Bayonetta blasting demons to Senua overcoming her own.

The 5 Most Replayable Ubisoft Games

These are the most replayable titles in Ubisoft’s catalog.

Ubisoft has a storied history as a developer, showcasing more than a few powerful female characters over the years. For clarity, these characters don’t need to be the central character or a part of a Ubisoft franchise, they just have to have exhibited great strength in a game published by Ubisoft. From original creations to licensed tie-ins of popular heroines, these are the strongest female characters to appear in Ubisoft games.

10 Lara Croft

Tomb Raider: The Prophecy

Lara Croft

Tomb Raider: The Prophecy
Systems

Released
November 12, 2002

Lara Croft is better associated with Square Enix or Eidos Interactive, but in between her significant history was a Game Boy Advance game developed and published by Ubisoft, so she just squeezes in. It is, after all, impossible to ignore one of the foremost female gaming icons when talking about strong female characters.

A trailblazer for female protagonists to come, Lara is both a capable combatant and a brilliant deductive mind. Both those things come in handy more often than one might expect for an archaeologist, as the intrepid explorer finds herself consistently coming face-to-face with prehistoric and supernatural monsters.

9 Phoenix

Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth

Phoenix

Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
Systems

Released
October 30, 2012

Another low-hanging fruit perhaps, but Jean Grey’s Phoenix is not only one of the most powerful X-Men, but she is one of the most powerful heroes/villains in the entire Marvel canon. Jean boasts a combination of cosmic and psionic powers that is nigh unstoppable as a fighting force.

The game in question is a rather forgettable fighting game that was a part of the motion controls bubble of the early 2010s called Marvel’s Avengers: Battle for Earth, making use of the Wii U remotes and the Xbox 360’s ill-fated Kinect.

8 Kay Vess

Star Wars Outlaws

Kay Vess

Star Wars Outlaws

Open-World

Action-Adventure

Released
August 30, 2024

OpenCritic Rating
Strong

Kay epitomizes grit and determination, with each day proving a constant struggle to survive thanks to her harsh upbringing on Cantonica. Having to get by on her guile and her sleight of hand, Kay navigates some of the worst low-lives in the Star Wars galaxy on a daily basis.

She’s also a dab hand with a blaster, more than capable of handling herself in a shoot-out. Star Wars Outlaws proved to be underwhelming in the gameplay department, but Kay’s story is still one that is well worth engaging with, and the modding community has already added a number of exciting features to the latest Star Wars game.

7 Yu Shu Lien

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Yu Shu Lien

  • Platforms: PlayStation 2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance
  • Released: 2003
  • Developers: Bergsala Lightweight, Genki

A tie-in to the Academy Award winning film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a beat ’em up that features four playable characters; most notably for this list, Yu Shu Lien. Lien is a revered martial artist and master swordsman who serves as a central protagonist in the story.

Socially, she is a very accomplished businesswoman of noble character, giving her a perfect combination of inner discipline and outward strength. The game follows the same plot as the movie and, although it doesn’t translate as well, Yu Shu Lien remains a powerful role model.

6 Rabbid Peach

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Rabbid Peach

Systems

Released
August 29, 2017

Developer(s)
Ubisoft Milan , Ubisoft Paris

OpenCritic Rating
Mighty

Rabbid Peach provides a lot of levity in the Mario + Rabbids games, but she is a powerful combatant all her own and a very useful ally. She is the most efficient healer on the team with her area of effect technique, and her cleansing jump removes status conditions from allies as she traverses the battlefield.

She can perform more dashes than most other characters and her blaster is an effective high damage weapon at mid-range. Frankly, she’s essential for some of the later missions and bosses that are almost impossible to navigate without a powerful healer.

5 Radjen

Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown

Radjen

Released
January 18, 2024

Developer(s)
Ubisoft Montpellier

OpenCritic Rating
Mighty

Radjen seemed to have been left on the cutting room floor when the credits rolled on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, with Sargon having dealt with or reconciled with all the other immortals, while the masked assassin was conspicuously absent. During The Mask of Darkness DLC however, she is fleshed out and given the time she deserves.

A warrior assassin, Radjen is initially captured by the Persians and sentenced to death, but upon seeing her power, Varham requests that she join the Immortals. Radjen traps Sargon inside her mind palace where she is able to wield god-like powers comparable to Varham’s own. Designed as an end-game challenge, Radjen is one of the hardest boss fights in the game.

4 Dani Rojas

Far Cry 6

DAni Rojas

Far Cry 6

Released
October 6, 2021

OpenCritic Rating
Strong

A revolutionary guerrilla combatant, Dani Rojas is a one-woman army as she sets out on a personal war to remove her island’s dictator, Anton Castillo, from power. Dani received military training from the nation’s armed forces before being dishonorably discharged.

Back roughing it on the streets of Yara, she eventually joins forces with Clara Garcia and her freedom fighters, known as Libertad. Dani is a more violent and ruthless aggressor than most heroes, but she’s determined to use everything at her disposal to achieve her objectives in a cruel landscape.

3 Kassandra

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Kassandra

Released
October 15, 2018

OpenCritic Rating
Mighty

Kassandra was the intended lone protagonist for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The game was built with her in mind before Ubisoft decided to offer players the option to choose between a male and female protagonist to temper audience expectations. That takes nothing away from her magnificence as the lead protagonist though; she is abundantly more well-rounded of the two options.

A Spartan mercenary and Human-Isu hybrid, Kassandra is a master of ordinary and superhuman weaponry such as her Spear of Leonidas. She is a legendary warrior in a time of close-quarters combat with a powerful Sparta kick to boot.

2 Jade

Beyond Good And Evil

Jade

Beyond Good And Evil

Released
November 11, 2003

Developer(s)
Ubisoft Milan , Ubisoft Montpellier

Beyond Good and Evil maintains a strong fan base for a game that’s over 20 years old at this point, and it is still awaiting a sequel whose announcement has a considerable number of years on it as well. Likewise, protagonist Jade remains a prominent feature on lists when ranking the best female characters in gaming history, let alone Ubisoft’s history.

Jade was originally praised for her character design, which didn’t just cater to the male gaze. Those tropes are mostly behind us in modern game design, thanks in no small part to trailblazers like Jade. In-universe, Jade is a strong character in her own right, standing up to corruption and caring for conflict orphans. She exhibits a great sense of nobility and valor and is willing to put herself on the line to protect innocent people.

1 Fenyx

Immortals Feynx Rising

Feynx

Released
December 3, 2020

OpenCritic Rating
Strong

There are a few better qualifiers for immense strength than the term ‘god-like’ and, in Fenyx’s case, that is an accurate descriptor. An actual demi-god with powers beyond even what’s expected of that moniker, Feynx successfully bests Greek legends such as Achilles and Typhon over the course of Immortals Feynx Rising.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Has So Much Franchise Potential

Immortals Fenyx Rising was a fun Breath of the Wild clone, and though it wasn’t perfect, it naturally lent itself to sequels it likely won’t get.

Feynx’s strength may be derived from raw power, but as a defender of the gods themselves, she certainly stands tall among the strongest female protagonists in all of gaming.
