The original Soul Reaver game debuted on the original PlayStation console and was a cultural juggernaut with astonishing 3D graphics for the time. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will allow players to relive all the dark gothic landmarks, epic boss fights, and rack their brains trying to remember how to solve devious puzzles. Along with these returning elements, there is also a range of new features added for Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.
A two-part puzzle will roadblock players as they make their way through Necropolis. Both parts require thinking with large stone blocks and are both required to progress through a large gate to return to a previous area, but not before unlocking the path to the road ahead.

The Necropolis Puzzle in Soul Reaver
While players make their way through the game, they can pop open a map that shows them the names of each area. While in Necropolis, they will reach a part that tells them that shifting the Spectral Realm can reveal hidden paths. There doesn’t seem to be any way to get higher in the Material Plane, and players will need to shift in order to trigger a cutscene. After shifting, players will encounter their first wraith enemy. These are the warped souls of vampires that have festered for too long in the Spectral Realm. Defeat the wraith and absorb its soul using combat reminiscent of PS1-era hack and slash games.
Players might have missed where to go at this point, but the walls will have warped to reveal new parts that they can scale up to. The location is next to that of the dead spawn of Melchiah. Scale up this path and look along the left wall to see a ledge you can glide to. On the far left of this ledge will be a block you can pull. This will also be where you will get your tutorial on how to flip blocks. Push the block to the right and then flip it to a higher level. Hop over the block and pull it once before hopping back over it and pushing until it goes into the wall. This will act as a key and open the top gate.

The Necropolis Puzzle (Second Room)
Go through the gate, where you will see another large gate on the opposite side, along with some enemies below. Most of which will be buried underground, but one will have been impaled by a spear. Remove the spear from the impaled enemy to revive it and dispatch all enemies using this spear to impale them, absorbing their souls after they fall. This will also dispatch the wraith in the Spectral Realm. Go to the right of the large gate, and you will find another block you can pull out of the wall. Push this block into the pit and towards the stairs opposite the large gate.
Dispatch any enemies that pop out of the ground and impale them with the spear before trying to continue pushing the block.
Flip the block up these stairs and then into the block-shaped slot on the right of the gate under the one you came from. This will open a way for you to get back to the room you started in. Players will now have both small gates open. Head back up to the top gate, and you will see a beam you can high jump up to. You will also see a form of scale on either side of the room. While in the Spectral Realm, you will not have any weight, and these scales will not move when jumped on. However, this is not the case for the Material Plane. Jump onto either side of this scale while in the Material Plane to push one of them down, and the other one up.

The Necropolis Puzzle (Final Room)
Shift to the Spectral Realm and make your way back to the top gate, then glide to the scale side that is now much higher. You can use this to reach the ledge on the far side of the room. This will take you into yet another room with the block puzzle. Absorb souls to recharge your stamina so that you can shift back to the Material Plane. You will see a block-sized indent on both sides of the room and a large gate between them. These indents have symbols that both blocks will need to match, but only one block is correctly facing. On either side of the large gate will be a ledge that players can press the blocks up to in order to push the top one off the bottom.
Here are the steps you can follow to get both blocks facing the correct way, even if you have already moved it from its starting position.
- Push the top block off the bottom block.
- Flip the top block so that its symbol is facing straight up.
- Flip the top block so that its symbol is facing away from its slot.
- Repeat flipping and pulling the block to rotate the symbol until it matches the bottom block.
If you have not yet attempted to move it, here is how you can get it facing the correct way.
- Push the top block north, off the bottom block.
- Flip the top block from the south.
- Flip the top block from the west.
- Flip the top block from the north.
- Both blocks will now match and can be slotted on either side.
Completing this puzzle does not award the player with any form of the game’s achievements/trophies, but players should still feel a sense of satisfaction as it means they can now press on to the next event of the game’s captivating story. At the top of this gate will be two wooden doors players can go through to find a block near a ledge. Push this block down so that it is next to another block. Flip it onto the block below and then push them to the south. Once they are all the way south, push them east so that they are against a wall. High jump up these blocks, and then high jump again to reach the ledge at the top of the wall. Continue on the path ahead to find the puzzle that will lead you to the Melchia boss fight, as well as where you can find one of the game’s Glyph Statue rooms.
South of these blocks will be a door that can take players to a fast travel room. Players will have already passed through this room once before, so they will not need to pass through and run all the way back.
