Kiryu, Majima, Tifa Or Young Sheldon?
Immediately following Anna’s tease, along with news of the impending The Game Awards announcement, fans took to Reddit to begin speculating on whom DLC No.4 will be.
“Wild prediction: It’s Kiryu,” one user wrote. Meanwhile, another rebutted with “Majima is more likely.” Indeed, both Kiryu and Majima from the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series have been heavily requested, not only for their star power, but because of how seamlessly they would fit in a fighting game.
That said, in 2020, Yakuza’s creator, Toshihiro Nagoshi, threw cold water on a Kiryu appearance in a fighting game, citing his desire to not see the character beating up women. Then, earlier this year, Masayoshi Yokoyama, a series producer, revealed that he would much rather see the characters of Yakuza go “across mediums,” like the recent TV series.
Of course, if one of the two were to be added, it would likely be Majima, especially considering he has his own solo adventure lined up for a February release.
Elsewhere, fans speculated that Tifa of Final Fantasy 7 fame could be the next DLC character. Tekken is no stranger to Final Fantasy crossovers, having already included Noctis of Final Fantasy 15 in Tekken 7.
“Very good chance it’s Tifa considering how big ff7 will be at TGA this year,” one user chimed in. Indeed, Final Fantasy 7 is nominated for Game of the Year, and will definitely have a lot of eyes on it, making a Tifa announcement a great use of synergy.
Of course, no thread is complete without memes, and fighting game fans were full of them. One user theorized Young Sheldon would be the game’s final Year 1 character, while another joked about Geoff Keighley being added to the game. Either way, Thursday will be must watch TV to see who exactly gets the final spot.
