Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s release date is coming up at supersonic speeds and many are eagerly awaiting Sonic and Shadow’s big face-off. Another major question surrounding the third Sonic the Hedgehog movie is whether there will be more installments, which may be answered in the film’s post-credit scenes.

The Sonic the Hedgehog films are loose adaptations of SEGA’s iconic mascot platformer games. The films re-imagine Sonic’s (Ben Schwartz) story set within the human world, where he becomes a part of Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie Wachowski’s (Tika Sumpter) family. Sonic uses his powers of super-speed to help save the world from the evil Dr. Eggman (Jim Carrey) a couple of times and eventually gathers allies Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba). The third movie will set up Sonic to face his greatest threat yet, the edgy antihero Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves.

Will Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Have a Post-Credits Scene?

While the outcome of Sonic and Shadow’s confrontation won’t be revealed until the movie hits screens, there’s already an indication that the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise will continue. A report from Collider out of CCXP in Brazil reveals that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to have multiple post-credits scenes. The producers of the movie reportedly said the film is set to have end-credits scenes right up until the closing seconds of the film’s shorter runtime. The CCXP panel also included a preview of Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow’s first fight, and a sequence showing Sonic hatching a plan to infiltrate the G.U.N. headquarters in London.

Post-credits have become a common tactic in movies to set up or tease future installments in a franchise, which was made popular in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Sonic the Hedgehog movies have had post-credits scenes. In the first film, the mid-credits scene hinted at the arrival of Tails on Earth. Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s post-credits sequence paved the way for Shadow’s arrival in the third film. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 featuring multiple post-credits scenes will be a first for the franchise. There’s no telling what these scenes may entail, but it can be assumed they may introduce a new character from the games to the world of the film adaptations.

Which Characters Should Be Introduced In Sonic the Hedgehog 4?

There is no shortage of other Sonic characters the film franchise could bring into the story. One of the most obvious choices would be to introduce Amy Rose as the next major character, the positive pink hedgehog who harbors a crush on Sonic in the games. Another way the franchise could go is to introduce Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat, two characters who hail from the future. With Shadow representing a character resurrected from the past, Blaze and Silver could serve as a nice parallel in the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog film and potentially take things to the future.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to release in theaters on December 20.
