Neuvillette and Zhongli are two top-tier 5-star units that received reruns in Genshin Impact version 5.2. While Zhongli was originally released in version 1.1, he is still considered one of the best sustain units in the game, with his powerful shield and ability to petrify enemies.

Genshin Impact: 12 Things You Should Know About Zhongli
Genshin Impact has plenty of interesting characters, but Zhongli is one of the most fascinating. What are some must-know facts about him?
Neuvillette on the other hand, is an outstanding DPS who can shred through enemies with his powerful Hydro abilities. It is tough to decide who to go for, especially when the choice is between a DPS and support, but any confusion you might have will be cleared.
Why You Should Pull For Zhongli
Ever since his release back in version 1.1, Zhongli has been regarded as one of the best sustain units in the game and that didn’t change, even in version 5.2. He can use his Elemental Skill to open up a powerful shield that blocks all forms of incoming attacks. All allies receive this shield once activated, and only a handful of enemies can counter it.
This shield also comes in handy to protect characters who can get staggered very easily such as Ganyu, Yoimiya, Hu Tao, Arlecchino, and Tighnari. While this shield is active, their attacks cannot be interrupted by the enemy, which makes it easy to deal damage.
Additionally, he can also use his Elemental Burst to petrify enemies and deal massive amounts of damage in a single hit. It is quite good at finishing off enemies on low health or providing breathing space to re-position the DPS.
The Zhongli Difference
One of the key parts to Zhongli’s kit is that apart from the shield, he can also reduce enemy resistances. While his shield is active, enemies have their Physical and Elemental RES reduced by 20 percent. Apart from that, he is also quite flexible and his utility varies depending on how you build him.
If you use Tenacity of Millelith and stack up HP through his artifacts, Zhongli’s shield becomes extremely powerful. However, he does lose out on the damage from his Elemental Burst. In that case you can use his Elemental Burst only to petrify enemies.
If you build him with something like Archaic Petra and stack up HP and Crit stats on him, he is able to deal significant damage with his Elemental Burst while also protecting allies with his shield. The build preference is completely up to the player and can change depending on the circumstances. However, regardless of the direction you go, Zhongli will ultimately function as a support unit.
The decision of whether you want to pull for Zhongli or not will depend on whether you are struggling to keep your character alive in fights. This is especially true for content like Spiral Abyss, where you need two teams, and having Zhongli in one of them solves a lot of problems. If you’re confident about the potential of your DPS units, Zhongli will be an excellent pickup.
Why You Should Pull For Neuvillette
Nevillette is a premium DPS unit that can deal massive amounts of damage with his Hydro abilities. If you have ever watched Pokemon and remember characters like Squirtle or Blastoise who could shoot water as a jet stream, Neuvillette functions very similar to them.
You can use Neuvillette’s charged attack where he will shoot a continuous water stream at the enemy and deal a lot of damage. This water stream has a good range, and you can easily remain at a safe distance from the enemy.
Additionally, he can heal himself by collecting water droplets that are generated from his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst. This makes Neuvillette self-sustainable, where he won’t need a secondary healer or shielder to keep himself alive.
The Neuvillette Difference
Neuvillette is all about damage and he can shred through all kinds of enemies as long as they don’t have Hydro resistance. He is also very easy to use and doesn’t have any strict requirements when it comes team composition.
The most optimal way to use Neuvillette is having three units with different elements in the team, as he gains a special stack called Past Draconic Glories depending on the varying number of reactions triggered by allies. He can gain three stacks at most, increasing his damage output to a maximum of 160 percent.
Additionally, his Elemental Skill spawns three Sourcewater Droplets and his Elemental Burst can spawn six. Neuvillette can consume three Sourcewater Droplets and it allows him to instantly cast his Hydro beam without the need for charging. Once his Elemental Burst is active, he can cast the Hydro beam twice in quick succession. He also gets healed whenever the Sourcewater Droplets are absorbed.
The question of whether you want to pull for Neuvillette or not will depend on the presence of a Hydro DPS in your team. If you have Mualani, you won’t need Neuvillette as the former can deal comparable damage and also receives the benefits of the Nightsoul mechanics from Natlan. However, apart from Natlan teams, Neuvillette is still the better choice as he can work in a variety of scenarios with less investment.
Pull For Characters You Like
While both Zhongli and Neuvillette are amazing units, you should only pull for these characters if you really want them. Some players are inclined towards meta, while others only play for design and aesthetics. If these two characters don’t match either of those categories for your account, then you can consider skipping, as there are several other powerful units in the game.
Primogems are also important to consider as unless you are willing to spend real money, you’ll have to decide how much you want these characters or whether it’ll be better to save for the future.
You might be willing to skip both Zhongli and Neuvillette for different banners, like Mavuika, the Pyro Archon. Waiting is sometimes the best idea, as there is always something special that brings a massive change to how the game is played. Additionally, if you pull for a character you enjoy, they might become meta at some point, which means you’ll have fun while also future-proofing your account.
