Next Borderlands 4 Trailer Gets Exciting Update

According to Gearbox Software’s CEO Randy Pitchford, a new Borderlands 4 trailer featuring in-game footage will debut during The Game Awards 2024 on December 12. A brief teaser trailer for Borderlands 4 was shown at Gamescom in August, but fans have been clamoring for more information about the upcoming entry ever since.

Following the debut of the first game in 2009, the Borderlands franchise has continued to grow and evolve, with the last mainline title released in 2019. From fantastical spin-offs like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands to less well-received releases like the live-action Borderlands film hitting theaters in August 2024, Gearbox has continued to experiment with the popular series, fleshing out popular characters and promising even more exciting things to come. Randy Pitchford Teases ‘Familiar Faces’ for Borderlands 4

Fans can seemingly expect to see a few familiar faces in Borderlands 4, according to the head of the game’s studio, Randy Pitchford.

According to a new Twitter post from Randy Pitchford, Borderlands 4 will be properly revealed during The Game Awards 2024 on December 12. While the length of the trailer remains unknown, Pitchford states that actual gameplay will be shown, along with a cinematic sequence that takes place between the end of Borderlands 3 and the beginning of Borderlands 4. This may help to give prospective players an idea of the upcoming game’s story, of which precious little is currently known. Though many fans thought that a mysterious face shown in the teaser trailer was that of Handsome Jack, this rumor has been laid to rest, with Gearbox clarifying that the iconic villain won’t be returning in a major way.

Borderlands 4 Gameplay Will Be Shown During The Game Awards 2024

While an exact release date for Borderlands 4 has not yet been revealed, Gearbox has stated that the game will drop sometime between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. With Grand Theft Auto 6 expected to hit store shelves sometime in Fall 2025, many fans are predicting that a buffer of three months on either side of such a major title would be wise, putting Borderlands 4‘s release date in late spring or early summer 2025. However, some fans believe that this is too optimistic, instead predicting an early 2026 drop. It’s unclear whether more details about the game’s release date will be revealed at The Game Awards as well.

In late November, a terminally ill fan, Caleb McAlpine, was able to play Borderlands 4 early thanks to Pitchford, who flew the 37-year-old and his friend to Gearbox’s headquarters. The disabled veteran called the game “amazing,” and as more details begin to emerge about the next major entry in the popular FPS franchise, many believe that it will be a huge step forward for Gearbox, who has called Borderlands 4 the “most ambitious Borderlands yet.” The Game Awards 2024 will air on December 12 at 7:30 ET.
