One of the biggest struggles of adapting a franchise like Marvel is nailing down the look and feel of the characters that reside within. Some of these characters have existed for more than 80 years, so there is a ton of expectation from fans about how they should act. And with the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that expectation has only grown. Luckily, Marvel Rivals seems to have understood this, and so far, it has knocked it out of the park.
From the second players enter Marvel Rivals, they can expect an experience that feels like a love letter to the Marvel Universe. All the characters are beautifully realized, the locales are a joy to fight through, and the core gameplay loop is extremely satisfying. While that is all great to see, perhaps the best part comes with the dialogue being spoken. The game may not focus on these spoken words much, but when Marvel Rivals players listen in, they can expect to hear some truly special lines that make these heroes feel real.

Marvel Rivals’ Dialogue Really Helps Sell its Marvel Universe
The Dialogue Between Marvel Characters Feels Very Natural
When players select their characters at the start of a Marvel Rivals match, they will hear a couple of lines of dialogue being spoken between some of them. This dialogue is usually only a couple of sentences, but what is said is often a treat for fans of the comics, films, and all things Marvel. They can hear jabs, little teambuilding exercises, some nice bits of easter eggs, or simply a quip or two as they watch the countdown to battle commence. And while not every line of dialogue may be endlessly quotable, their addition really helps make these characters feel alive.
No matter what character is chosen, there is often something said between them. Players can hear The Punisher take jabs at Rocket Raccoon, they will hear Thor and Loki converse about life, can sometimes hear Magneto and Namor debate about war, or can listen to Captain America hype up the team before the battle starts. Additionally, these characters will even say things after killing someone on the battlefield or say random things throughout the match. Much like with the MCU’s many quips, this dialogue serves as a constant companion for the player, and that is awesome to see.
This Dialogue Helps Make Marvel Rivals Feel Extremely Authentic
The dialogue between these Marvel characters really helps make them far more than simply characters within a hero shooter roster. Instead, they actually feel like they were ripped straight from the pages of a Marvel comic, especially when they talk about various events from said pages. Because of that, players will likely be spending years debating about what is officially canon to Marvel Rivals. And as the game grows, these lines of dialogue will probably also grow with it.
It really feels like NetEase Games has nailed down exactly what Marvel fans look for in their favorite characters. Some of the dialogue may feel a bit out of place at times, but for the most part, every character within Marvel Rivals feels like they were made by a fan for a fan. That approach is all anyone can ask for in a game like this, and as of now, it seems like the playerbase agrees.
It will be interesting to see just how far NetEase Games is able to take Marvel Rivals after its initial success. There are likely many more heroes in store for Marvel Rivals players to check out, and hopefully, these characters will be able to maintain the heart of the launch roster. If the studio can continue to nail down the look and feel of this universe through things like dialogue, then players are in for a fantastic time.
