Vanguard heroes in Marvel Rivals are tanky brawlers who like to get up on the enemy’s face and cause mayhem. While they don’t deal the most damage, in 1-on-1 situations, it’s almost impossible to win out against them. If that seems like a playstyle you want to try out, Venom is your perfect hero.
With a difficulty rating of only 1 star, Venom is one of the easiest heroes to master in Marvel Rivals. His abilities are relatively easy to understand, but executing them flawlessly in the middle of a team fight takes a lot of practice. The most important thing to understand with this hero is when to play aggressively and when to run back behind cover. In this guide, we’ll give you an overview of Venom’s abilities and cover the basics of playing the hero in Marvel Rivals.

Venom has had plenty of appearances in past Marvel games. In Marvel Rivals, he retains his signature aggressive, get-on-your-face playstyle. As a Vanguard, your primary role as Venom is to get into the thick of the fight and cause chaos. While you don’t deal the most damage with your abilities, you can keep your foes distracted while other heroes in your team get the space to dish out the damage.

Despite being a Vanguard, Venom is a highly agile hero in Marvel Rivals. Venom’s ability to quickly disengage from a fight when things turn dicey is what makes him a strong choice for the role. His Venom Swing ability doesn’t have additional charges like Spider-Man’s Web Swing, but since it has a low cooldown, you can get in, deal damage, and swing out after a few seconds of causing chaos.
How to Play Venom in Marvel Rivals
Venom is a tanky hero with above-average base health. On top of that, his abilities that offer Bonus Health allow players to jump into the middle of the fight without worrying too much about dying. With a healer Strategist providing backup, you can keep your foes pushed back while your team captures the objective or deals the killing blow.
You can use your Venom Swing to get to the objective faster when leaving the spawn area. Its low cooldown means you’ll have it ready by the time you see any enemies.
Venom’s main attack combo is to Venom Swing into the fight and use Frenzied Arrival to dive into multiple enemies from above. While the enemies are knocked back, use Cellular Corrosion to Slow enemies and hit them using Dark Predation. If your health gets low, use Symbiotic Resilience to gain bonus health. Deal as much damage as possible, and Venom Swing back out and get behind cover for your healers to heal you back to full. Venom’s Alien Biology passive ability allows players to climb up the walls, dive in using Frenzied Arrival, and save Venom Swing for escape.
While Venom’s
Team-Up Ability with Peni Parker
and Spider-Man isn’t the best in the game, it can offer some utility. The damage from Touch of Klyntar is pretty low, but the knockback effect can help CC enemies and make it easier to land ability combos for your teammates.
Venom reaches a massive power spike when the ultimate ability, Feast of the Abyss, is fully charged. It essentially acts as a get-out-of-jail-free card for the hero, and whenever you have it available, you can start playing more aggressively, even when your healers aren’t focusing on you. Save it for key moments and use it to burrow underground and hit multiple enemies to gain bonus health and deal massive damage to enemy heroes caught by it.
Venom’s poor attack range means you’ll be at a severe disadvantage when at a distance. So when playing against heroes like Hawk-Eye, you’ll want to use your Venom Swing to get close to them every chance you get. Venom’s high base health combined with additional health gain from abilities makes it impossible to 1v1 against the hero.

The hero shooter genre is growing, and while Marvel Rivals shares a lot in common with Overwatch 2, there are a few key differences that set it apart.
Marvel Rivals Venom Tips & Tricks
While the above section covers most of what you’ll need to know about playing the hero, here are a few additional tips and tricks to help you get more use out of Venom in Marvel Rivals:
- Venom’s Symbiotic Resilience is his key survival tool in battle. While it might be tempting to use it when you jump into the fight, you should hold off until your health drops low. That way, you’ll gain a large amount of health and can sustain yourself longer in the fight.
- Both Venom Swing and Frenzied Arrival abilities have an 8s cooldown. You’ll want to use the two abilities as much as possible to keep things chaotic. Use it to hunt down sniping heroes or backline supports.
- After attaching tentacles to multiple enemies with Cellular Corrosion, chase the target with the least mobility to make sure you proc the full damage with your ability.
- Feast of the Abyss is a powerful ultimate ability that deals a lot of damage. However, you should save it for key moments in the fight and try to hit multiple targets to gain more health and deal more damage.
- Even though you’re a Vanguard, it’s okay to run behind cover, especially when your healer dies. If your team gets killed, run behind cover instead of trying to force the objective needlessly.
- Communicate with your teammates and friends to let them know when you’re going in with your Venom Swing. You’ll want your healers to focus on you when you’re diving into the fight.
Venom’s playstyle is relatively easy to learn in the game. With the tips we dropped in this guide and some practice, you’ll soon be able to dive into the battlefield and make life difficult for the enemy team in Marvel Rivals.
