There’s no sugar-coating that it was a rough year for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. After Rocksteady’s debut looter-shooter opened to disappointing sales and divisive fan reaction, the title has been chugging along with post-launch content to a small, but dedicated, playerbase. However, the game’s fortunes might change with the recent announcement that Deathstroke will be joining the game’s roster in the next update.
Arkham series fans have been waiting to see Slade join the Squad since as early as Batman Arkham:Origins, wherein Amanda Waller recruits DC’s greatest assassin into service. But that was nearly a decade ago at this rate; Slade’s debut has been a long time coming. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has gotten a number of post-launch characters since release, but Deathstroke’s arrival is the one that’s really going to make a splash.

What Will Be Included In Suicide Squad’s Season 4 Update?
In the comics, there’s no shortage of characters that have been part of the Suicide Squad. But the game’s gun-based framework has made adding characters a little difficult. It is hard to justify why a character like Black Manta or Arkham-verse Killer Croc would be using an assault rifle for combat. Slade is such a huge addition because not only is he a fan favorite, but because firearms are comfortably within his M.O. as a character. At this time, it’s unclear which gun types Deathstroke will be able to access in-game, but based on his character and his historical preference for assault rifles, sniper rifles, and pistols, those seem to be the safest bets.
Like Joker, Mrs. Freeze, and Lawless before him, Slade will either be up for purchase outright, or available for unlock after some grinding. It’s worth noting for returning players that the unlock threshold has been significantly toned down since the Joker first dropped shortly after launch. All it takes is sinking some time into some missions or a few dollars to unlock him outright.
As with all updates for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, there will be plenty of Infamous and Notorious gun sets and cosmetics for Slade and the other seven squad members to take advantage of, including a new battle pass for the fourth season of the game.
Deathstroke’s Arrival Could Mean a Lot for the Arkham Universe
Longtime Arkham fans know all about Slade’s involvement with Batman in Rocksteady’s universe, and they’ve been wondering what he’s been up to since his last humiliating defeat in Arkham Knight. It’s likely they’ll get all those answers and more, since Deathstroke is the first DLC character that comes from the Arkham-verse proper. The other DLC characters have all been from multiple timelines destroyed by Brainiac. Deathstroke’s release will likely come with some fascinating lore tidbits about what he’s been up to since the events of those games. Because despite the game largely being seen as a misstep, fans are still ravenously hungry for more information about one of the most beloved Batman timelines.
Deathstroke’s release also marks the end of the game’s existing road map. Amid swirling rumors of Rocksteady moving on to another Batman title and WB publicly noting the game as a financial disappointment, it’s a safe bet that this will be the final season for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This means that the next update will have to not only introduce Slade to the Squad, but also have to resolve the storyline, killing the last of the Brainiacs and saving the last members of the Justice League: Batman, Superman, and potentially even Wonder Woman. This last update will likely decide the fate of the Arkham-verse going forward, so fans of the series who may have checked out might want to tune in one last time to see how it all ends.
