Is Marvel Rivals Steam Deck compatible Even though this game has now been released, NetEase has yet to secure Steam Deck compatibility, even for a playable certification, with the issue being related to the Linux-based SteamOS.
Despite being the best handheld gaming PC, the Steam Deck still struggles to run certain games. Most of these issues arise when a game is always online, and requires the presence of an anti-cheat system that doesn’t work with Linux. Even if the Marvel Rivals system requirements suggest the game should run just fine on the Steam Deck’s hardware, its multiplayer focus is the downfall, for now.
Is Marvel Rivals Steam Deck compatible?
Marvel Rivals doesn’t have an official Steam Deck rating, and issues with Linux compatibility mean it is currently not playable.
When booting up Marvel Rivals on the Steam Deck, I’m met with three error messages before the game is forced to close. One states the GPU drivers are outdated and suggests which drivers should be used across Nvidia, AMD, and Intel cards. Another states that I am not using the right version of Windows, while the final message suggests the video memory of the Steam Deck is running low.
After this, I am still able to hit ‘Launch Game’ but it just closes the application and sends me back to my game library. This is clearly an issue with Linux compatibility, and enabling any of the available Proton versions does nothing to remedy the problem.
Even after launch, the game still hasn’t received Steam Deck certification. For now, if you want to play Marvel Rivals on a handheld, the Asus ROG Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go are your best bets.
