Indiana Jones And The Great Circle: Basic Melee Combat Guide

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle: Basic Melee Combat Guide

Indiana Jones is known for a few things. The hat. The whip. Archaeology. But one of the things he’s best known for is punching fascists (Nazi, or otherwise).

If you want to take your fisticuffs game to the next level, you’re in the right place. Pull up a chair, because class is now in session.

Basic combat moves

Let’s review the basic controls on mouse and keyboard as well PS5 and Xbox controls (Keyboard/PS5/Xbox).

  • Right Mouse / L2 / LT – punches with your left hand
  • Left Mouse / R2 / RT – punches with your right hand
  • V or Left Alt / L1 / LB (Hold) – puts your hands up to block attacks
  • V or Left Alt / L1 / LB (Tap, just before an attack connects) – parries attacks and provides an opportunity for a counter-attack
  • F / R1 / RB (tap) – uses your whip to attack / disarm opponents
  • F / R1 / RB (Hold) – grabs enemies with your whip and drags them towards you
  • Space + Move / X + Move / Square + Move – Dodge in the direction you’re moving
  • R / R3 / RS – Pushes an enemy

You can grab vulnerable enemies

You can also press F/R1/RB when an enemy is vulnerable to grab them. Pressing Q/Triangle/Y will let go, but you can also shove them (R/R3/RT) into the environment / enemies / off ledges, pummel them with blows (Right Mouse/L2/LT, Left Mouse/R2/RT).

Use improvised melee weapons

Indy will reach his hand out when you are close to various items he can grab and use as improvised weapons. Brooms, shovels, wrenches, toilet brushes, and loads more.

Picking up melee weapons will add damage to your attacks. Melee weapons will also have a certain number of pips, shown in the lower right corner of the screen. This is the item’s durability. After attacking as many times as there are pips, the item will break, Indy will drop it, and you’ll need to find a new one (don’t worry, they are everywhere).

You can also throw them, which is handy. Hold Right Mouse/L2/LT to aim a held weapon, then press Left Mouse/R2/RT to throw it.

Pressing Square/X when you run out of bullets lets you use your revolver as a melee weapon. Breaking it will mean you’ll have to find a Repair Kit and use it on the revolver before it will be usable again.

The Whip

It matters where you hit enemies with the whip (F/R1/RB). Hit enemies in sensitive areas to stun them with F/R1/RB. Hold their legs (F/R1/RB hold) and pull back to trip them, opening them up for easier attack.

Now that you’ve gone to the School of Hard Knocks and Archaeology, get back out there and punch some Nazis.
