Path of Exile 2 is a deep and complex ARPG, and for any newcomers to the series, these beginner tips will help them get started on their journey.
How Does Stunning Work In Path of Exile 2
Whenever you damage an enemy, you have a chance of stunning them while also building up the Heavy Stun meter. The Heavy Stun meter on an enemy or boss is the yellow bar that fills up as they take physical damage, with the amount that fills up being determined by the amount of damage taken. A regular stun has a chance of happening every time a physical hit lands, determined by the accuracy of the wielder and if the target doesn’t dodge based on their evasion.
- Stun – Brief halt of any current action with a slight recovery.
- Heavy Stun – A full knockdown with the inability to act for many seconds after.
Stunning can also be done by spells or ranged attacks, with just about all damage types outside of damage over time building up Heavy Stun.
If one of the regular stuns goes through, the enemy’s current action will be interrupted and they will stagger, though this happens more often on smaller enemies than on bosses. Once the Heavy Stun meter fills up, the enemy or boss will get knocked to the ground and will spend the next few seconds getting back up, indicated by the yellow bar draining.

How To Stun Your Enemies More Often In Path of Exile 2
Both types of stunning are determined by the amount of damage you deal to the enemy. Increasing the amount of damage you do can increase your odds of stunning an enemy or building up heavy stun, with this also applying to skills. There are many passive skills that can increase Stun Buildup, which focuses on your Heavy Stun buildup as regular stuns don’t build up in the same way.
These passives can be found in the bottom left section of the passive skills menu, searching, “Stun” will greatly help in finding them. There are bonuses that can be found on magical weapons that increase the percentage of Heavy Stun buildup that should be prioritized when found. There are also bonuses that increase Stun Duration, which is how long an enemy is on the ground after a Heavy Stun is inflicted.
