The Punisher is a reliable choice for many different maps and team compositions in Marvel Rivals and a sturdy, all-rounder type of pick for a Duelist character. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get started with playing The Punisher:

  • The Punisher’s toolkit enables him to apply pressure to targets from all different ranges. His shotgun can be used to deal massive damage to enemies within close proximity of Punisher, his Assault Rifle is brilliant for chipping down the health of mid-range targets and confirming kills, whilst his Turret is a huge threat at gunning down long-ranged targets, making chokepoints difficult to push past, and applying pressure from a safe distance.
  • There is a short animation that plays when switching between his primary and secondary weapons. Getting used to this timing is important, for example; if a highly mobile hero swoops towards you, you need to react with enough time for the animation to cycle before you can begin defending yourself. Reading the battlefield and switching weapons accordingly throughout the fight becomes a core part of The Punisher’s gameplay.
  • Hold Space, rather than push for kills. Punisher is brilliant at defending areas thanks to his kit, so depending on the map, you should be looking to defend the objective with every aspect of his kit. While the efficiency of his guns may make it tempting to try and chase down a pesky enemy who is 1 hp, Punisher lacks the movement speed that a lot of other heroes have on a quicker cooldown. If his grapple has already been used, he’s going to struggle to either keep up and secure the kill, or struggle to get back out as the enemy team regroups against more mobile heroes such as Spider-Man, Star Lord, Venom, etc. Instead, players should look to utilize cover, peek corners and apply damage, set up their turret to help create space and utilize any vantage points provided by the map.
  • His grappling hook/zipline can be used to reach high ground, rooftops, and other points of advantage. This becomes particularly useful if the enemy team is lacking heroes who can reliably contest high ground areas, as Punisher can set up his Turret and have free reign on a team who aren’t able to reach him.
  • Turret positioning is key. While his Turret can be a lethal force to be reckoned with, positioning of the Turret is very important, as while it does protect Punisher from some incoming damage, he’s essentially a sitting duck whilst using it. Again, reading the battlefield is important, as if the enemy is up in numbers it may be best to leave your turret and fall back to regroup with your own team, rather than try to fight it out as they enter your range, where they could potentially focus you for an easy pick.
  • Always be looking to apply pressure and secure picks on mobile characters. As a hero with a hitscan weapon, The Punisher is one of the characters who have the best chance at hassling flying/highly mobile characters – particularly ones with a slower float or predictable ark to their flight. The range on Punisher’s Assault Rifle is great at picking off these enemies without needing his Turret.
  • Punisher’s Ultimate ability is strong for both engaging in fights to take space, as well as pushing the enemy back and forcing them to give up space. When using his Ultimate, Punisher applies a hefty damage output that he can use to pressure the tankier enemy characters and make their job of taking and holding space much more difficult.
