Captain America is one of the many starter heroes in NetEase Games’s superhero shooter, Marvel Rivals. This fan-favorite iconic character takes on a melee role, where he smashes enemies with powerful punches and uses his famous vibranium shield to finish them off.
While his lore remains the same as in the comics, Captain America brings impressive moves and strength to the game, which fits his role as a Vanguard. As you progress, you’ll be able to level up the character from Agent to Lord and unlock new Cosmetics, Avatars, KO Prompts, and parts of his Hero Story along the way. This guide will show you how to play Captain America in Marvel Rivals.

Captain America’s Abilities In Marvel Rivals
Like other Vanguards in the game, Captain America has one main attack. He also has six solo abilities, including an Ultimate that can wear enemies down quickly. When teamed up with allies like Thor and Storm, he can use his special Team-Up ability to gain an edge against opponents.
But players might find his playstyle tricky if they don’t nail the right combo of his strengths for each enemy class. His health is better than Duelists and Strategists, but it’s not as high as some leaders. Here’s a quick recap of Captain America’s character stats:
- Captain America’s Health: 650
- Captain America’s Difficulty: Three Stars
- Captain America’s Role: Vanguard

When To Use Captain America’s Ultimate
Captain America’s Ultimate (Freedom Charge) is perfect for activating when leaving the spawning area and capturing enemies right at the start. Using it, you can run faster toward foes and carve through an energy path that provides an instant health pool for your teammates. Be sure to combine the Ultimate with an ability. The best option is the Super-Soldier Slam to take out enemies head-on and create an opening for Duelists to handle them strategically from behind.
Tips and Tricks For Playing Captain America In Marvel Rivals
Captain America is great for leading the charge and acting as a tank for his team in Marvel Rivals. However, he’s not always the best choice for the frontlines, especially against Venom, Groot, and Hulk, as his abilities and health aren’t as effective against them. It’s better to avoid going after them alone and instead work with fraggers (Duelists) to take them down, while Strategists support the team by healing from the backlines.
The game suggests an ability combo for Captain America: start with Leading Dash and Vibranium Energy Saw to deal damage, then follow up with Liberty Rush and Super-Soldier Slam to close the distance. Finally, finish enemies off with Sentinel Strike. While this is a solid strategy, an alternative approach could be using Leading Dash and Super-Soldier Slam for quicker damage. Shooters are weak against Captain America because of his Living Legend ability, which reflects enemy shots back at them. This lets you keep up constant pressure and, together with allies, take control of the match.
