How to Beat Balbala in Path of Exile 2

Balbala is a not-so-optional boss in Path of Exile 2 that blocks the way toward getting Class Ascendancies. She’s a fairly powerful enemy with a number of flashy attacks, and players who have had trouble with any of the bosses prior to this one may have a hard time fighting her as well.

Bosses in Path of Exile 2 are hard by design, and players will need decent gear and a good grasp of how enemies fight if they want to win. If you’re already kitted out, here’s a guide covering some important things about Balbala’s moveset.

Balbala Boss Fight Guide

Balbala sealed in her prison in PoE 2

Balbala is a pesky boss that’s more irritating than difficult. Many of her attacks (bar a few) are heavily telegraphed and easily avoided, but she has a few tricks up her sleeve that can quickly send players back to the checkpoint outside her prison. Her two deadliest moves are:

Dagger Flurry

You can dodge or run away from the majority of Balbala’s attacks. However, she has an attack where she rapidly throws a flurry of poisoned daggers — this move comes out extremely fast with almost no way of telling when Balbala is going to do it, and if it doesn’t kill you outright, it’ll force you to use a lot of Healing Flask charges. Your best bet at avoiding this is to constantly circle around Balbala while fighting.

Poison Mist

Balbala occasionally goes invisible and causes a poisonous mist to start creeping from the center of the arena. If you don’t do anything about it, you’ll start choking to death. The only way to counter this move is to run around the edge of the arena and find Balbala before the room is fully coated in poison. Once you do find Balbala, do not attack. She will do a slam attack that deals massive damage when you approach her. Dodge this, and resume your usual dance of dodging and counter-attacking.

Tips for Each Class

In general, players will want to keep moving at all times when fighting Balbala. She is a very aggressive boss with high burst damage, so treat each of her attacks as if they can kill you in one shot (they probably can). Use PoE 2’s dodge and block mechanics, and chip away at her health as much as you can, and she’ll eventually go down. For class-specific tips, here are a few for each one:

Tips

Warrior

  • Use Rolling Slam into Armour Breaker as a quick damage combo for short windows of opportunity.
  • Earthquake and Shockwave Totem are good for damaging/stunning Balbala while she’s casting spells/performing attacks.
  • Be very patient.

Monk

  • Try stunning Balbala with Staggering Palm and beating her down with Tempest Bell and Quarterstaff basic attacks.
  • Execute her ghost minions with Killing Palm to build Power Charges for Falling Thunder.
  • Use Frozen Locus and Glacial Cascade to disengage while damaging Balbala.
  • Dodge backward after using Frozen Locus, then use Glacial Cascade. This should put you in perfect range to detonate the Ice Crystal.

Huntress

  • Try to stay as far away as you can while pelting Balbala with your skills.
  • Poisonburst and Gas Arrow are decent ways to deal damage while kiting.

Mercenary

  • Concentrate on dodging and shooting.
  • Consider fighting in close range with Fragmentation Rounds since Balbala tends to move around a lot.
  • Break her armor with Armour Piercing Rounds before blasting her with stronger ammo types.

Sorceress

  • Orb of Storms with Arc or Spark can shred Balbala’s health pool fairly quickly.
  • You may need to fight up close if you’re using projectile-based spells.

Witch

  • Consider using Flame Wall with the Raging Spirits Support Gem.
  • Balbala has a lot of AOE attacks, which are very strong against your minions. Rely on Spells and other skills for damage.
