Cassandra Pentaghast is your companion in Dragon Age: Inquisition. She first appeared in Dragon Age 2 as Varric’s interrogator, so we were delighted to see her return. She’s a Seeker of Truth and the Right Hand to the Divine; her devout belief and high morals define her character.

However tough as Cassandra may appear on the outside, she has the heart of a true romantic. Any curious Inquisitor will want to experience each unique moment for themselves like when Cassandra reveals herself to be a fan of Varric’s romance novels. An Inquisitor who chooses to sweep her off her feet will discover a whole new side to this woman. It should be noted that only a male Inquisitor can romance her.
Updated December 9, 2024, by Andrew Scariati: Triggering the Cassandra romance in Dragon Age: Inquisition is more complicated than any romance you’ll find in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, we have you covered with everything you’ll need to romance Cassandra, including where to get her favorite gifts.
How To Gain Cassandra’s Approval
As with every romance in Dragon Age: Inquisition, you should start by winning Cassandra’s approval.
The easiest way is to be a devout Chantry follower, espousing your belief in the Maker and embracing your role as the Herald of Andraste. By extension, as a Seeker, Cassandra believes deeply in the Chantry-founded institutions like the Templars and the Mages.
To earn her trust, suggest reforming these organizations, but not demolishing them all together.
Siding with the Templars over the Mages will give you one of the biggest boosts possible to Casandra’s approval rating.
She prefers the Inquisitor taking the Templars on as allies but doesn’t disapprove of recruiting the mages, it just results in slower progress in winning her favor.
As a warrior, Cassandra also generally favors “take action” approaches to problems, and values the “knightly” traits of honor such as sacrifice, truth, and selflessness.
Endure Some Awkward Flirting
As you get to know Cassandra in Haven, you should explore all her dialogue options and flirt with her whenever the opportunity arises.
Some of the flirtation options may cause slight disapproval, but there’s no need to worry. She secretly enjoys being flirted with underneath all that bluster.
Flirting won’t go very far with Cassandra until later, but it’s key to build up the prompts.
Communication isn’t her best skill, so the Inquisitor has lots of chances to playfully tease her. Cassandra may come off a little hostile in response, but she understands your meaning well enough.

Promise of Destruction Personal Quest
The quest “Promise of Destruction” is Cassandra’s quest in which she discovers where all the other Seekers of Truth have gone.
Turns out, Samson or Calpernia (depending on your choices) sold the Seekers to an Andrastian cult called the Order of Fiery Promise because they had a natural resistance to Red Lyrium.
Cassandra gives merciful deaths to suffering Seekers still in the fortress and takes her anger out on the Lord Seeker who allowed this all to happen.
When she returns to Skyhold after the quest, she begins to question whether her goal to rebuild the Seekers was even worth it.
The Inquisitor’s romantic option will encourage her to try.
Most of the dialogue options throughout this quest have little to no approval change, but completing it will earn you an automatic “Cassandra Greatly Approves.”
Completion of the “Guilty Pleasures” quest is the only strict requirement for romance, as you can woo Cassandra enough with a high approval to trigger “The Ideal Romance”.
The Ideal Romance And Courting Cassandra
Cassandra’s romance is among one of the best in the game for this adorable fetch quest that occurs before the relationship begins.
After completing her “Promise of Destruction” quest, Cassandra approaches a male inquisitor who has flirted with her enough and admits that she has noticed his advances, but says that she yearns for a man to sweep her off her feet, and properly court her with flowers and poetry.
It’s possible to trigger this scene earlier with high enough approval, but by this point, you you will enchant Cassandra sufficiently, even if you haven’t taken advantage of every chance to win her approval.
The Inquisitor can either give up and decide that the white-knight, romance she’s describing isn’t for him. Or he can track down the three gifts she mentioned.
Where To Get Gifts For Cassandra
Head to the following locations to get everything ready for your perfect romance with Cassandra:
- Flowers can be purchased from an elven gardener in Val Royeaux (south)
- Candles are in Pierre-Marie’s shop in Val Royeaux (Summer Baazar)
- The final touch, a book of poetry, can be found by talking to the Dwarven bookseller in Redcliffe Village
There’s a bug that can occur that prevents you from acquiring the book from the bookseller, so make a save then speak with the Dwarven bookseller in Redcliffe last to avoid triggering it.
Once you have all three items, you ask Cassandra to meet you just outside Skyhold.
When Cassandra arrives, the Inquisitor sets up candles and flowers and reads poetry to her delight. You share a passionate kiss and your romance with Cassandra is made official.
