Bosch: Legacy season 3 is heading to television screens in March 2025, but as it stands, it’ll be Harry Bosch’s final solo show, as Amazon canceled it back in September 2024 despite strong viewership and a huge fanbase. An army of fans has backed a petition to save Bosch: Legacy, with over 13,000 signatures so far. It’s important to remember that the petition can also act as a way to save the Jerry Edgar spin-off, which was axed soon after Amazon announced the end of Bosch: Legacy.
Jerry Edgar is a popular character in the Bosch-verse, and a key storyline in the later seasons of the original Bosch series laid the groundwork to explore his backstory as well as an exciting undercover assignment in a spin-off series. Michael Connelly is hoping the Jerry Edgar spin-off will eventually still happen if the Ballard spin-off does well. However, Amazon’s attitude towards the Bosch-verse is so negative at the moment that it doesn’t seem likely.

Jerry Edgar was Harry Bosch’s loyal detective partner in the original Bosch series, but he became so much more than a sidekick as the series progressed. Things really took a turn for Edgar towards the end of the fifth season when he began investigating the murder of his loyal confidential informant, Gary Wise. This led him to investigate a notorious drug kingpin called Jacques Avril, who was a member of the Haitian secret police. Turns out, Avril was in Los Angeles when Wise was killed, and Edgar thinks he had something to do with the murder. Edgar becomes obsessed with the investigation into Avril and the case becomes his white whale. He becomes increasingly frustrated at the pushback to his investigation due to Avril’s links to the CIA, who consider him to be an important informant.
Edgar discovers Avril is wanted for crimes he carried out while he was in the Haitian secret police and the case becomes very personal for him when he finds out the criminal actually killed one of his uncles back in Haiti. It gave the audience an important link to who Edgar was, and when it was announced that the Jerry Edgar spin-off would take place in Little Haiti, it was clear his backstory was going to be explored in more depth. Edgar finally snapped when Avril ordered the death of Gary Wise’s brother, Dwight. His thirst for justice ended with the execution style shooting of Jacques Avril at the end of the sixth season. The aftermath of this key event saw Edgar go off the rails in the final season, before appearing to get his life back on track when Bosch backed him for a spot in the robbery homicide division. However, there is so much still to explore with Jerry Edgar, but it’s looking like guest spots in Bosch: Legacy season 3 will probably be the last time fans get to see him.

The Expansion Of Jerry Edgar’s Arc Proved He Could Hold His Own In A Spin-Off Series But Amazon Have Disrespected The Character
The expansion of Jerry Edgar’s character was one of the best aspects of the later seasons of Bosch, and it was proof that he’d be a worthy pick for his own show in the future. Amazon clearly saw the potential in Jamie Hector as a leading man, as they officially announced the Jerry Edgar spin-off in February 2023, alongside plans for a Renee Ballard series. Amazon’s statement to announce the end of Bosch: Legacy suggested they still had plans for Jerry Edgar’s show, before axing it just a few weeks later:
We are proud of the impact these series have made, and we are excited that Michael, Titus, Henrik and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell in the ‘Bosch’ world with the final season of ‘Bosch: Legacy,’ our new Ballard series and more to come.
There isn’t more to come for Jerry Edgar after Bosch: Legacy ends, and Amazon have totally disrespected the character, after the creative team set up his exciting future solo story in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. The spin-off was a great chance to peel back the layers of complexity of Edgar’s character, and give him the Harry Bosch treatment, so to speak. Fans were baffled at the lack of updates on the Jerry Edgar spin-off, while the Ballard series went into production. It’s now clear that Amazon were quietly dismantling the rest of the Bosch-verse behind the scenes.
