The Game Awards has revealed its final five nominees for the Player’s Voice award, after yet another year of fierce competition. A total of 30 games have been whittled down to just five, as popular picks among gamers like Stellar Blade, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, Palworld, and about eight different live service games have all been voted out.
We’ve even been spared a grudge match between Sonic and Mihoyo fans, as Sonic x Shadow Generations was surprisingly knocked out early in the competition. The same can’t be said of Mihoyo though (which has been represented in every Player’s Voice award since 2022) as both Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero have booked a place in the final, along with fellow anime gacha game Wuthering Waves.
Black Myth: Wukong And Shadow Of The Erdtree Are Fighting Off The Horde Of Anime Gacha
For those of you not particularly interested in gacha, there are two titles representing your interests. The first is Black Myth: Wukong, which will probably be seen as the favorite for the award after its Golden Joysticks win last month. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is also there, proving that clearly not everyone is against DLC potentially winning a GOTY award.
Realistically, this is most likely a toss up between Black Myth: Wukong and one of the Mihoyo games. Wukong is definitely in the driver’s seat, helped along by the fact that there is more than one Mihoyo game nominated this time around, which could result in the Mihoyo faithful being split. Shadow of the Erdtree has an outside chance, but will be hampered by the “no DLC at The Game Awards” crowd.
It’s more of an open contest than last year anyway, which saw Baldur’s Gate 3 sweep up pretty much every award going, along with Player’s Voice. It’ll be interesting to see whether Mihoyo fans can coordinate effectively enough to take down a behemoth of a fanbase in Black Myth: Wukong, but to be honest, my money is on the monkey.
