Wings are a total gamechanger in Terraria. These useful accessories transform the gameplay, allowing the player to hover, fly indefinitely, and tackle monsters from advantageous new angles.

There are dozens of different wings in Terraria, all accessible once the player defeats the Wall of Flesh and enters Hardmode. Getting wings is an essential part of progressing through the game, and a pair should be picked up as quickly as possible once Hardmode is activated. Leaf Wings

Leaf Wings are the easiest flying accessory to acquire at the beginning of Hardmode. All the player needs to do is build a home for their Witch Doctor, an NPC that spawns in housing built in the Jungle biome.

The Witch Doctor will only spawn after the player has defeated the Queen Bee, a pre-hardmode boss that is relatively easy to defeat with proper preparations. Leaf Wings cost 1 Platinum coin, or100 gold coins. The wings can only be purchased at night.

Frozen Wings

The Frozen Wings are the next set of Wings for any player in Hardmode. They’re similar to Leaf Wings in most aspects, although they have a slightly increased acceleration speed, making them more ideal for boss fights.

To get your hands on Frozen Wings you need to collect an Ice Feather. This is dropped by the Ice Golem, a rare enemy that spawns in the Ice biome during a blizzard. The best tactic for defeating the golem is to utilize ranged attacks since its quite a heavy hitter up close.

Harpy Wings

The Harpy Wings are identical to the frozen wings, but are vastly more luck based in terms of crafting. You need to collect one Giant Harpy Feather, which has a 1-in-200 chance of dropping from a Harpy.

When you craft them, you’ll have a pair of wings that can carry you up to post-Plantera. The harpies are difficult since you’re fighting in the air, but it beats waiting around for a blizzard in the snow biome for an enemy that might not spawn.

The Hoverboard

Although not technically wings, the Hoverboard should still appear on this list because it allows a unique form of flight. With the board, you’re actually able to hover, which can be very useful for boss fights and building alike.

This item is by no means easy to acquire. You’ll need 18 Shroomite Bars and 20 Souls of Flight to craft the Hoverboard. It becomes a tedious process of cutting and growing mushrooms, so it’s recommended to have a makeshift mushroom biome at your base.

Steampunk Wings

The Steampunk Wings are another tier up from Frozen Wings, with increased acceleration speed and height. Just like the Leaf Wings, these wings are easy to acquire just by purchasing them from an NPC, this time the Steampunker.

The Steampunker NPC spawns after the player takes down any of the mechanical bosses, but only sells the wings after the Golem inside the Jungle Temple is destroyed. The Wings cost three Platinum, a drastic increase in price. This tier of wings can be crucial in taking down a boss, like the Empress of Light.

Vortex Booster

This end-game item is similar to the Hoverboard, except it eclipses the earlier board in every aspect. It has the fastest hover speed of any Wings in the game. You can hover horizontally up or down, making it even more optimal for building than the Hoverboard or any set of wings. The Vortex Booster also gets a massive boost to horizontal speed, 300 percent to be exact.

It requires ten Luminite Bars and 14 Vortex Fragments to craft, which means this is very much an end-game item. You’ll need to have defeated the Moon Lord to craft this set of wings.

Fishron Wings

These are another pair of end-game Wings that are pretty rare, only dropped by the Duke Fishron boss in Hardmode. Fishron Wings are the second-fastest Wings in the game and the speed is increased even further if the player is in water.

Duke Fishron is a real pain of a boss, though. His Sharknado attack deals serious damage if you get caught inside of one. Duke Fishron also enters a frenzied state when he gets low on health, dashing about furiously like the Eye of Cthulu did back at the beginning of the game. Fishron is fast, hard to kill, and a true end-game Terraria challenge.

Nebula Mantle

The Nebula Mantle is an endgame set of wings from the Hardmode pillar events. These wings are crafted with ten Luminite Bars and 14 Nebula Fragments, gathered by smashing the Nebula Pillar to pieces.

These wings fit in nicely between Fishron and the very top-tier wings. Its ascension speed is increased by 50 percent. This means the Nebula Mantle isn’t as fast as the Vortex Booster. However, the two wing sets are identical otherwise. It boils down to which pillar you’d rather fight more between the Vortex and Nebula

Stardust Wings

The Stardust Wings can propel you the highest of all wings in the game, with the Solar Wings being an equally good choice due to the identical stats. The choice comes down to which of the Celestial Pillars you’d rather fight more of. The Stardust Pillar is widely considered the easiest, while the Solar is normally the hardest.

Stardust Wings and Solar Wings are widely acknowledged to be the second-best Wings in the entire game, only beaten to the finishing line by the all-powerful Celestial Starboard.

Celestial Starboard

The Celestial Starboard is the best Wing accessory in the game. It’s one of the most difficult accessories to obtain in Terraria 1.4 because the Moon Lord can only drop it in Expert Mode.

It has the fastest movement, the highest ascent, and the ability to hover. There are no other Wings that come close to the Celestial Starboard. If you get your hands on this, consider yourself an expert at the game because Moon Lord is no easy feat, especially in Expert Mode.
