Naruto’s dream was to become the hokage. This dream was ruined in Boruto.
Naruto has successfully received a sequel story, called Boruto, but fans aren’t entirely sure how they feel about it. Boruto has largely been a hit-and-miss, and while it is certainly intriguing in parts, fans know that it is, in a way, wasting the potential that the Naruto series carries and that the franchise needs a fresh start.
Boruto’s Failures As A Sequel
- Boruto failed to build upon Naruto’s success
- Boruto’s sales keep dropping
Boruto was set up by Kishimoto in the Final chapter of the Naruto series. Essentially, fans got to see a major timeskip, after which Naruto’s son was revealed to the fans. By this time, Naruto had already become the Hokage, which meant that his goal was already accomplished. As such, there was no more incentive for the fans to follow Naruto’s journey. This is why a new series was set up with Naruto’s son as the protagonist. Right from the get-go, fans did not like Boruto’s personality. He was quite easily one of the most unlikable protagonists that fans had seen in recent memory. But, Boruto being unlikable was a choice made by Kishimoto on purpose. This is because Boruto underwent a tremendous growth through the years, and has now become someone worthy of carrying the mantle from his father as the protector of not just Konoha, but the world.
What must Dad have gone through to get to this level? – Boruto
Boruto certainly made an impression on the fans and it is safe to say that, as a character, he is quite exciting. Despite that, the Boruto series doesn’t hold a candle to Naruto. Fans have given it quite a lot of time over the years, and, despite everything, its popularity is constantly dwindling. Furthermore, fans know that it is a far cry from the brilliant Naruto series that Kishimoto wrote before. The truth is that Boruto is never going to reach the same levels of popularity as Naruto and, in the first place, the vast majority of the fans give Boruto a shot because of the Naruto series.
That is not to say that Boruto doesn’t have its own personality and defining factors, but without Naruto, most fans would not check the series out or be stuck with it for as long as they have. This is precisely why there is a need for a new series in the Naruto franchise, something that doesn’t cover the journey of Boruto Uzumaki and instead focuses on the adventures of Naruto Uzumaki and his generation of ninjas.
The Room For A New Sequel Story
Naruto Can Return As The Protagonist In The New Series
Naturally, fans know that the series has gone down a very difficult path. For one, the protagonist has already shifted to Boruto, which means that there cannot exist another series set around the same time where he is the protagonist. That would undermine Boruto’s journey and essentially discard it as canon, especially if the paths that divulge. That is precisely why a continuation of Naruto, whichever direction it heads in, needs to happen long before the beginning of the Boruto series. Thankfully for the fans, there is a perfect place for this series to fit. As fans know, after the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto Uzumaki was shown becoming the Hokage. But, that happened many years into the future. The many years that lie in between the time when Naruto ended the war and became Hokage is perfect for a new Naruto series to begin.
Come, Otsutsuki! I’ll show you what true resolve means. – Naruto
Fans have desperately been wanting to see what exactly Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and all the other ninjas of the world did during the blank. During this time, they could have acquired further strength, fought stronger enemies, or did some other things that changed the face of the world greatly. Unfortunately, fans don’t have a perfect account of this time, but that is precisely why this would make for a perfect Naruto story.

Kishimoto reveals how he was inspired by Oda while writing Naruto. Naruto would have been different without One Piece.
Fans can expect something similar to what Dragon Ball did with Dragon Ball Super or more recently, Daima. Dragon Ball Z ended a major timeskip where Goku was in training with Uub. This happens later into the future and Dragon Ball Super is actually set long before that. Of course, there have been questionable retcons here and there, but, in the grand scheme of things, it works. Similarly, Daima is now set after the events of the last Arc of DBZ, which, once again, goes to show that things can be fit in between and made into a successful story.
For Naruto, something similar can be done. Fans can get a completely new series that fits right after the conclusion of the war and fills up the blank period. Fans can see their favorite ninjas once again and at the peak of their abilities, driving their own plots forward, which is something that they have always loved about the series, to begin with.
How Naruto Can Continue An Exciting Journey In The Blank Period
Naruto’s Growth After The War Could Be Shown
In the blank period, Naruto’s journey is going to be absolutely phenomenal. Since Naruto will not have become the Hokage, fans can see the series take a different turn on what being Hokage truly means. At this point, Naruto will have the acknowledgment of the entire world already, as well as the strength to back up his claim to the position of Hokage. Yeah, Naruto would still have to grow in many aspects to claim this position and that is what it could focus on.
At the same time, Sasuke’s journey throughout the world, where he tries to redeem himself, is going to be absolutely phenomenal. Meanwhile, Sakura Haruno is going to be a key part of the group as well. Fans will also get to see Kakashi’s rule as Hokage, and if many powerful threats are incorporated into the series, then, Team 7, and along with them, every other team in Naruto is going to get ample opportunities to shine. Fans can likely see some very powerful ninjas as the antagonists in this story.
After all, the concept of the Otsutsuki Clan isn’t quite the same as having opponents of the caliber of Madara Uchiha, or even other Akatsuki members. Naruto has, at its core, always been a series that focuses on ninja, and as such, having ninja villains would be far more appealing. Of course, whether or not the series will ever come to fruition is something that fans don’t know, but, the concept itself is certainly glorious and fans would absolutely love it if another Naruto series were to happen.
Naruto is available to read on the MangaPlus and the Shonen Jump app. Fans can read the official release and support the author by doing so.
