What Are Whimstars Used For?
Players familiar with Genshin Impact, another open-world gacha game, will find Whimstars reminiscent of the Oculus found in each region of Teyvat. However, Whimstars play a significantly larger role in Infinity Nikki, as they are essential for unlocking various nodes within the Heart of Infinity.
The Heart of Infinity is a skill tree system accessible via the top-right corner of the UI or by pressing the ‘I’ shortcut on PC. Along with Bling and Insight, Whimstars are used to unlock a range of features, including Sketches, items, and attribute boosts. Some of these Sketches allow players to craft Ability Outfits, which are not only necessary for advancing the story but also for engaging with various open-world activities.
Unlocking nodes in the Heart of Infinity provides numerous benefits, such as making exploration in the open world more accessible and improving gathering efficiency for materials like flowers, fur, bugs, and fish. Additionally, the attribute boosts from these nodes contribute to higher stats and style points, an important aspect of the game.
Different Types of Whimstars
While all Whimstars serve the same purpose in unlocking nodes within the Heart of Infinity, there are several types found in the open world, each with unique methods of acquisition. The simplest Whimstars can be collected by simply walking up to them. However, others require players to complete challenges or use their Ability Outfits to obtain them.
- Curio Whimstars: These start as pink cubes but transform into doors when approached. Players must enter the domain created by the cube and complete the puzzle challenge within to collect the Whimstar.
- Whimstar Pieces: These require players to gather all scattered pieces of the star within a short time frame.
- Cloud Whimstars: Players must use a moving cloud platform to collect all the pieces before it reaches the end of its journey. This can be challenging, as some pieces require players to jump off the cloud temporarily.
- Whimflutter Whimstars: Carried by glowing Whimflutters, these Whimstars require the Bug Catching outfit Afternoon Shine to catch.
- Whimink Whimstars: Found in the form of furry animals, these Whimstars can only be obtained using the Animal Grooming outfit, Bye-Bye Dust.
- Whimfin Whimstars: These Whimstars reside in the water and must be fished out using the Fishing outfit, Rippling Serenity.
- Flying Whimstars: These Whimstars have small wings and fly along a predetermined loop. Players need to pay attention to their flight path to catch them.
- Hide & Seek Whimstars: These involve locating a hidden yellow star image within the circular area marked by a white line.
