Things To Do After You Beat Pokemon Let’s Go

Things To Do After You Beat Pokemon Let's Go

Key Takeaways

  • Gear up for post-game fun after becoming Pokemon Champion by facing tougher battles & collecting Mega Stones.
  • Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own the elusive Pokemon Mew with the purchase of the Pokeball Plus controller.
  • Expand your Pokemon collection by trading over Meltan and Melmetal from
    Pokemon Go
    , unique non-Kantonian species.

When Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee were first announced for the Nintendo Switch, old-school fans of the series were delighted. Returning to the magical world of Kanto, the games feature the original 151 Pokemon as well as one or two special additions. Unlike the original games, however, there are still quite a few fierce battles to be fought even after the Indigo Plateau.

Much like many of the recent Pokemon games, Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee have plenty of post-game content that should keep players busy long after they’ve become the Pokemon Champion. There are plenty of compelling reasons to stick around for a little while longer, whether it be catching additional Pokemon or seeking out new and more challenging opponents.

5 Pokemon Games With the Best Graphics

In terms of visuals and graphics alone, these games from the Pokemon franchise stand out as the most stunning ones.

Updated December 8, 2024, by Ben Painter: The latest entry in the franchise, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, has been out for some time now, along with its DLC. So, gamers may want to get their Pokemon fix by playing a different game, as they wait for the release of the next entry, Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Why not head back onto Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu or Let’s Go Eevee and try to 100% complete the game on the Nintendo Switch? There is lots to do after the Elite Four & Champion have been completed, and this update adds two more things to do in the Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu & Eevee post-game.

1 Collect All Of The Alolan Forms

Different Versions Of The Original Kanto Pokemon

Alolan Form Pokemon In Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: Various
  • Things Required: The Original Version Of The Pokemon

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee are unique in the franchise for taking things back to basics and only including the original 151 Pokemon in the game. However, there are a few exceptions, and these are the Alolan forms of certain Pokemon, which can be traded to the player by an NPC and are found in the Pokemon Centers of every major town or city in Kanto.

These Alolan forms were originally introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moonas regional variants of some Red & Blue Pokemon, which have different appearances and types. Although these Pokemon don’t add to the Pokedex total, it is nice to catch them in order to fully complete the game.

2 Collect All Mega Stones

Time To Mega Evolve Some Pokemon

Mega Stone Salesman In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: Pallet Town, Cerulean Cave, The Pokemon League
  • Things Required: Money, A Strong Pokemon Team

Mega Evolution was originally introduced in Generation 6 with Pokemon X & Y. Certain Pokemon are granted an extra evolution that can only be done in battle with the use of a held item, a Mega Stone. Other than that generation, the gimmick was largely forgotten about in the franchise. An often-overlooked fact is that Mega Evolution is present in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee.

There are a total of 15 to collect in the game. Four of those are given as part of the story, for the evolved form of the Kanto starters. Another two, for Mewtwo, are rewarded for defeating Green. The rest can be purchased from a man dressed as Slowpoke in The Pokemon League. Make it the player’s goal to collect them all!

3 Buy The Pokeball Plus And Catch Mew

The Only Way To Get The Mythical Pokemon In The Base Game

Mew In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: N/A
  • Things Required: Pokeball Plus Controller

Out of the original 151 Pokemon, the mythical Pokemon Mew is the hardest to acquire. Back in Pokemon Red & Blue, it was only available through in-person events. The trend of this being the case continued in the remakes, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee.

The only way to get Mew on the Nintendo Switch title is to purchase the additional controller, the Pokeball Plus, which came with a code for Mew to be added to the Pokedex. This comes with an additional cost, an unnecessary one, as the game can be played with the regular Nintendo Switch joycons. Some fans even prefer doing so. However, to complete the Pokedex, it is required. Unless fans want to trade a Mew from Pokemon Go, or another game.

The Only Non-Kantonian Pokemon Available In The Games

Melmetal In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: N/A
  • Things Required:Pokemon Go, A Pokemon To Trade

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee have the unique trait of only having the Pokemon from the region it’s set in to be available in the game (aside from the Alolan forms of Kanto Pokemon). However, here are two exceptions to this: The Mythical Pokemon Meltan and its evolved form, Melmetal.

These elusive Pokemon are only available in this game in a special way. When a Pokemon is traded from the mobile game Pokemon Go onto the Switch, a Mystery Box will appear in Pokemon Go. This will allow the Meltan to spawn, and then it can be traded into Let’s Go. Meltan cannot be evolved in Pokemon Let’s Go, so Melmetal must be evolved on Pokemon Go and then traded over, using 400 Meltan candies.

Take On The Kanto Gym Leaders With Stronger Teams

Gym Leaders In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: Their Respective Gyms
  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team

A common theme in the Pokemon games’ post-game is to take on the Gym Leaders for a rematch. The Gym Leaders of Kanto have stronger Pokemon teams, higher levels, and additional Pokemon once the Elite Four & Champion have initially been defeated.

Stronger Teams & New Pokemon

Elite Four & Champion In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team

Once the Gym Leaders have been taken care of, the Elite Four and the Champion can also again be battled. Their teams have been upgraded with higher levels, new Pokemon, and even some Alolan forms of Kanto Pokemon.

It will take some battling expertise to master the final chapter of the game for the second time. The Elite Four now have a full team of six Pokemon, with a few different variations of their typings, so it is not a straightforward affair when it comes to type match-ups. Make sure to assemble a strong team of Pokemon, as they cannot be switched out of the party once entering the Indigo League. Also, stock up with plenty of items to heal Pokemon after each battle.

7 Fly!

Take To The Skies With Select Pokemon

The Player Riding On A Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: N/A
  • Things Required: Pokemon That Can Fly

After becoming Pokemon Champion, players will be able to select a second Pokemon to travel alongside them and their starter Pokemon. Choosing Charizard — or any other large, Flying-type Pokemon — will enable them to soar above buildings and walls, which can make traversing the game’s world considerably easier.

In addition to this, players will also be able to encounter other Flying-type Pokemon while they’re up in the air. Many of these are fairly common Pokemon like Spearow and Pidgey, although, on rare occasions, Charizard and Dragonite can sometimes spawn.

8 Finish Catching The Legendary Birds

Articuno, Zapdos & Moltres Are Available

  • Location: Seafoam Islands (Articuno), Victory Road (Moltres), Power Plant (Zapdos)
  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team, A Lot Of Ultra Balls Or The Master Ball

The three Legendary Birds can technically be caught before heading to the Pokemon League — Articuno in the Seafoam Islands, Moltres on Victory Road, and Zapdos at the Power Plant. While the first two are en-route though, Zapdos is pretty out of the way, meaning that many players skip catching it the first time around.

For those who didn’t find time to visit the Power Plant or, for whatever reason, didn’t catch Articuno or Moltres, doing so after becoming Champion is an absolute must. Each requires players to solve a puzzle to get to them, although they’re fairly easy to catch once they’ve been encountered since they cannot run away.

9 Catch Mewtwo

The Strongest Pokemon In The Game

Pokemon Let's Go Mewtwo

  • Location: Cerulean Cave
  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team, A Lot Of Ultra Balls Or The Master Ball

Unlike the locations of the Legendary Birds, the Cerulean Cave cannot be accessed until after players have emerged victorious in the Pokemon League. In the cave, dwelling deep within its depths, players will find the incredibly powerful Mewtwo.

This level 70 Pokemon is nowhere near as easy to catch as the Legendary Birds, so many players opt to save their Master Ball for this occasion. His immense power makes this a pretty tough battle, as too does the five-minute timer. It’s therefore a good idea to save beforehand, although thankfully, defeating the Elite Four again will cause him to respawn if players run out of time or are defeated.

Battling Green In the Cerulean Cave In Pokemon Let's Go

  • Location: Cerulean Cave
  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team

After players have caught Mewtwo and emerged from the Cerulean Cave, Trace will appear and tell them to head back inside and look for a girl who was searching for them. Before doing so, though, it’s a very good idea to heal any injured Pokemon.

His team consists of Pokemon who are all level 66 or higher and even includes a level 68 Mega Charizard Y. This isn’t the only gym that can be re-challenged either, although it is definitely the most difficult of the eight that are available.

12 Battle The Master Trainers

Take On Some Of The Elite Battlers In The Kanto Region

Pokemon Lets Go Charmander Fixed

  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team

After defeating the Elite Four, players may start to notice that many of the game’s trainers now have a Pokemon symbol floating above their heads. Placing that specific Pokemon at the front of their party will allow players to fight these trainers once more.

Although they are a little more difficult the second time around, the real challenge is finding them all. There are a lot of them scattered around Kanto — 153, to be exact — so those hoping to complete all of the extra content in the game can expect to devote quite a bit of time to tracking them all down.

13 Challenge Red At The Indigo League

Red In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: The Pokemon League
  • Things Required: A Strong Pokemon Team

Once players have defeated six of the master trainers, Red will finally appear outside of the Pokemon League. He’s considerably more difficult than both Blue and Green combined due to him boasting a team of Pokemon that are all level 85.

Kanto Pokemon In Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

  • Location: Various
  • Things Required: A Lot Of Pokeballs, Trading, or Pokemon Go

To get hold of a Diploma, players will need to complete their entire Pokedex. Although a daunting task, it’s at least a little easier than it was in previous games, as most Pokemon can now be captured in the wild. Of course, finding them all can still be a bit of a chore.

There are a handful of Pokemon that are only available in one of the two versions of the game though, meaning that they’ll either need to be traded or transferred in. Thankfully, however, this is now as simple as heading over to Fuschia City and importing them from Pokemon Go!

If players take their Diploma to the incredibly meta “Game Freak Headquarters” in Celadon City, they’ll be able to get their hands on a Shiny Charm. As the name might suggest, this valuable item increases the chances of running into a shiny Pokemon by a huge amount.

Shiny Pokemon, of course, aren’t any more powerful than their regular counterparts, although many of them do look considerably cooler. There’s also the matter of bragging rights as well, with some players taking great pride in their collection of shinies.

16 Battle & Trade Online

The online features of Pokemon Let’s Go allow players to battle and trade with friends — or, if they’re so inclined, random people. When battling, all Pokemon get set to level 50 to keep things fair, although it’s still possible to use the Key Stone to help things along.

Given the amount of hard work that goes into catching all of the game’s Legendary Pokemon and tracking down shiny Gen 1 variants, the online areas of the games serve as a great place to show them all off. Of course, there are also plenty of challenging opponents there just waiting to be battled, making it a great training ground for those who’ve already defeated Red, Blue, and Green.

After everything has been completed in the game, sometimes the best thing to do is to just restart and complete the game again from the beginning. However, gamers may want to put a twist on this, playing Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee in a slightly different way.

A common way for fans to do this is the Nuzlocke Challenge. Gamers can only catch the first Pokemon they see on each route, and once a Pokemon faints, it is considered dead. These are the two main rules, but others can be used to add even more of a challenge. There are countless ways that a Pokemon game can be played; healing isn’t allowed, players can only use Pokemon of a certain type or even just use one Pokemon altogether. It makes for a quick and easy way to spice up a new playthrough.
