It’s widely known that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has multiple endings. Depending on the choices you’ve made, you can have up to three options to choose from – two of which force Solas to end his plans to bring down the Veil, and one that talks him down. And, of course, there’s a bad ending if you messed everything up.
However, there is a lesser-known ending, which you can get alongside any of the others. This secret ending is unlocked by collecting three Mysterious Circles, which you obtain through completely optional tasks around Thedas. If you’ve done this, you’ll get an end credits scene once you’ve beaten the game – one that’s proven incredibly controversial.

Here, The Veilguard ties itself into the previous three games by retroactively suggesting that most of the previous villains were being guided by a mysterious group called the Executors. Understandably, many weren’t happy with the implication that the likes of Loghain and Meredith actually had completely different motivations, prompting director John Epler to say that this wasn’t what was intended, and everyone still “made their own choices”.
Dragon Age: Inquisition May Have Set Up The Veilguard’s Secret Ending
Even though many felt that it came out of nowhere, it seems that Inquisition was setting some time like this up the whole time. This was pointed out by StrafemOrigin over in the Dragon Age subreddit, who highlighted that there’s a reference to those “across the sea” in a codex entry – which is where the Executors are said to come from.
Yet there’s also a much more explicit reference to the group elsewhere in the game. If you investigate some markings that come from people with links “across the seas”, you’ll eventually get one of two letters from the Executors, revealing their existence to the Inquisition. In one of the letters, they ominously write, “For the moment, we are not your enemy”.
In The Veilguard’s secret ending, they are much more overtly villainous. Here, alongside the reveal that they were subtly guiding previous villains, they say: “And soon, the poison fruit ripens. We come”. This heavily suggests that they will play a role in the narrative soon.
We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out. We’re likely in for a very long wait for what comes next though, with The Veilguard not getting any DLC, and all focus going to the Mass Effect series.
