Key Takeaways
- A first look at what will likely be Pokemon’s final Funko Pops of the year has been revealed.
- Gengar, Fuecoco, and Zorua are getting Funko Pops, all of which should be available to buy early next week.
- The only downside is the Gengar design isn’t what Funko-collecting Pokemon fans hoped it would be.
A first look at what will almost certainly be Pokemon‘s final Funko Pops has been revealed. Zorua, Fuecoco, and Gengar will be the next Pokemon to get the Funko Pop treatment, the last of those three a design many fans have been waiting a long time for. Unfortunately, most of those fans appear to be underwhelmed with the direction Funko has gone for Gengar’s Pop look.
Whether it’s plushes, backpacks, or toys, a few Pokemon tend to be featured frequently, and Gengar is usually one of them. So much so that it was starting to get a little weird that the Ghost-type hadn’t been turned into a Funko Pop yet. Now that it finally has, the reaction to its reveal might explain why Pokemon and Funko were reluctant to add the popular pick to its Pop collection.

The next three Pokemon Funko Pops have finally been officially revealed.
The key detail Pokemon fans have picked up on most is Pop Gengar’s eyes. Gengar has been given the beady black eyes that most Funko Pops have, but fans have questioned why its eyes couldn’t have remained beady but been red since, well, Gengar’s eyes are red. Disappointing that Funko couldn’t bend to include that detail, but collectors will know it neglected to do the same thing for Umbreon, so perhaps unsurprising that Gengar’s Pop doesn’t have red eyes either.
Gengar Is Finally Getting A Funko Pop, And It’s Not Quite What We Imagined
Hey, At Least Fuecoco And Zorua Look Good
Funko Pop News, which was one of the first accounts to share the first look at Pokemon’s three latest Pops, has also pointed out that if Gengar’s Pop looks familiar, it’s probably because it looks like Pop Thanos. Not only because Gengar and Thanos are both purple, but also because the Thanos figure has the same beady black eyes and toothy grin as Gengar. Seriously, it’s uncanny. Whatever you do, don’t show Gengar any Infinity Stones.
The reactions to Fuecoco and Zorua’s Funko Pop debuts have been far warmer. Neither Pokemon needs their eyes to be a different color and beyond that, it’s evident a lot of effort has gone into their designs. As good as Gengar looks, the problem with its design is it isn’t very detailed. Fuecoco and Zorua don’t have that issue with the former, in particular, adapting very well to Funko Pop life. It might be my favorite Pokemon Pop design of the year, and there have been a lot of them.
The Pokemon Pop trio isn’t available to buy yet, but they’re expected to go on sale on Amazon early next week. The three figures will round out what has been a very busy year for Pokemon Funko Pops. Dialga and Arceus Jumbo Pops were released as Comic-Con exclusives, and Mimikyu, Sprigatito, and Greninja were among the many regular-sized Pops to be added to Pokemon’s growing collection.
