Path of Exile 2: Weapon Set Points, Explained

There’s a lot to think about when considering your Path of Exile 2 build, Weapon Set Points just add a bit more complexity and customization to the mix. Though players naturally get Passive Skill Points while leveling, Weapon Set Points can be earned in other ways, and are used to adapt a build when using different weapon types.

To bind new Skills, Path of Exile 2 players on PC and console must equip a Skill Gem, then select the input of their choosing.

In Path of Exile 2, Weapon Set Points are essentially Skill Points that will only activate when using one of your two Weapon Slots. This guide goes deeper into the new Weapon Set Points system, and explains how to get more Weapon Set Points in Path of Exile 2 to further branch out your Passive Skill tree for specific situations.

What Are Weapon Set Points?

In the Passive Skill Tree, you can assign regular Passive Skills points that are always in effect, and use Weapon Skill Points to branch off and customize different Passive Skill loadouts when using different weapons.

You can equip two weapons in Path of Exile 2 and freely swap between them, which takes about half a second. In your Inventory look above the Main Weapon slot to the left of your character to see a tab with the symbol “II”. Select this and drop a weapon into the empty slot to equip a secondary weapon in your backup slot.

When you swap weapons, the Weapon Set Points Path of Exile 2 players have allocated for each weapon will take effect alongside the baseline Passive Skill Points that affect both Weapon Sets.

Path of Exile 2: How To Equip Support Gems

In Path of Exile 2, Support Gems work a bit differently than they did back in PoE 1.

A good way to engage with this system is to use your regular Passive Skill points to build a long path between several Notable node clusters, then use Weapon Set Points to spec into these clusters for specific weapons. For example, when speccing for a Crossbow build, you’ll branch out into Projectile-enhancing Passives, while a backup Mace setup would branch into more defensive and melee-oriented skills.

When you swap between these two weapons, your Weapon Set Skills will automatically activate and de-activate, allowing each Weapon Set to have a unique set of Passives that only apply while wielding that weapon.

How To Allocate Weapon Set Points

In the Passive Skill Tree, you should see a small box in the top-right corner with two selectable options for each Weapon Set – “I Weapon Set” and “II Weapon Set”. When you get Weapon Set Points, Path of Exile 2 players can select either of these two Sets to allocate a certain amount of Points for each Set.

While selecting each set, allocate Weapon Set Points in your Passive Skill Tree as you would a normal Passive Skill. Note the different colors of the node path your Weapon Set Skill points follow when branching from your normal Passive Skill point path.

You will have to do this individually for both Weapon Sets, but you don’t have to share Weapon Set Points between each build. If you get 2x Weapon Set Points, for example, both of your main and secondary Weapon Sets will have 2x Passive Skill Points to spend, not one each.

The number of Weapon Set Points you can spend for each Set is highlighted in brackets next to the name in the format (number spent/number available).

After confirming your choices, swap between your weapons to see the Passive Skill Tree re-route to include the Weapon Set Points for each weapon. To refund Weapon Set Points, Path of Exile 2 players should follow the same method as they would to refund normal Skill Points.

How To Get More Weapon Set Points In PoE 2

To get more Weapon Set Points, Path of Exile 2 players must collect an item called Book of Specialization. This consumable item simply grants 2x Weapon Set Points (for each Set) on use. You can only get these unique consumables via two methods: killing Bosses, or completing certain Quests.

Both main bosses and mini-bosses for each Act have a chance to drop Book of Specialization, but the chance is relatively low for both – though main Act bosses appear to have a higher chance to drop a Book of Specialization.

Throughout all Acts in Path of Exile Book of Specialization can be earned as a reward for completing certain Quests. When you pick up a Quest, note the Quest Rewards below the quest giver’s name. If a Book of Specialization is listed, you’ll get 2x Weapon Set Points to spend upon completing that Quest.
