There are three primary Resources that virtually all players have to be concerned about when travelling around Path of Exile: Life, a representation of your character’s current Health, Mana, which can be used to fuel abilities, and a new Resource called Spirit. Life and Mana are easy enough to understand, but the new Spirit system Path of Exile 2 introduces works a little bit differently.

Path of Exile 2: How To Upgrade Item Rarity
To upgrade Item Rarity, Path of Exile 2 players must use one of two specific PoE 2 upgrade currencies.
Spirit is used to fuel long-term or permanent abilities, like permanent minion summons, permanent self-buffs, and more. But it’s a relatively limited Resource, and players will soon want to know how to get more Spirit in Path of Exile 2 to fuel more of these powerful abilities. This guide explains the basics of the new Spirit Resource mechanics and details three methods for how to increase Max Spirit in Path of Exile 2.
Path of Exile 2’s New Spirit Resource System
Spirit is essentially a Resource that can be used to gain permanent buffs or build-enhancing abilities. Life is lost when you take damage, and Mana is lost when you cast spells and skills. Spirit is different in that you Reserve a certain amount permanently to activate specific skills.
For example, the Mercenary has an ability that allows him to explode enemies when Overpowered and ignite nearby enemies for a certain amount of damage. But to activate this powerful crowd-clearing passive, you must Reserve 30x Spirit.
After Spirit has been reserved, you can’t regain it passively like Life or Mana. Spirit stays Reserved until you de-activate abilities that require this Resource.
How To Get More Spirit In Path of Exile 2
Spirit is an important Resource for certain builds, especially Minion builds that use Spirit to create permanent summons, but it can be hard to increase Max Spirit in Path of Exile 2.

Path of Exile 2: How To Get Points
In Path of Exile 2, Points are used to purchase items from the in-game microtransaction store, and can be acquired a few ways.
Essentially, there are three ways to get Spirit: Path of Exile 2 players can defeat Bosses, for a chance at consumable items that boost Spirit permanently, equip Gear with Spirit bonuses, or allocate certain Skill Points to boost Max Spirit.
- One boss in each Act will drop a consumable that increases your Spirit by 30. In Act 1, most players’ first time getting Spirit will be defeating this boss. On the World screen, hover over each Boss icon with a + sign next to it to see if finding and defeating it will reward a Spirit bonus item
- Some Gear in Path of Exile 2 comes with extra Spirit, especially Sceptres. While wielding a Sceptre, your maximum Spirit is increased by a whopping 100. This is practically essential for Minion Witch builds. Some equipment also comes with bonuses to Spirit (signified by + x Spirit), though this modifier is relatively rare.
- Some Passive Skill Nodes and Ascendancy skills will increase Spirit or reduce the amount of Spirit needed to Reserve abilities. For example, the Infernalist Witch Ascendancy node “Beidat’s Will” grants extra Spirit that scales with your Max Life.
If you are really hurting for Spirit and want to get more Reserve abilities activated sooner, the best method is to simply equip a Sceptre. A 100-point bonus to Spirit is immediately noticeable and a huge amount to have handy, but be sure to beat the boss in each Act for permanent Spirit bonuses.
If you aren’t reliant on Spirit for your build, a Sceptre will let you use Spirit abilities until you gain from bosses or Skills. Once you get to around 90 base Max Spirit, swap off the Sceptre for a potentially more useful backup weapon.
