Path of Exile 2 innovates the action RPG genre by combining best-in-class character customization the series is known for, with a plethora of new systems and character ascendancy classes. The result gives fans of Path of Exile a familiar experience with improved, visceral combat while offering newcomers a more welcoming and intuitive starting experience.
One of the new systems introduced to Path of Exile 2 is the charm system. Players familiar with the original Path of Exile will immediately see similarities with that game’s Utility Flask system, as charms give players access to powerful utility effects that activate automatically. Accuracy is a stat all characters need in Path of Exile 2 in order to get your attacks to hit; here’s exactly what it does.
What are Charms?
Charms are equipment items that are equipped next to a player’s life and mana flasks, granting various effects that activate automatically when certain conditions are met. For example, a Ruby Charm grants players additional fire resistance that activates when a player takes fire damage, while a Dousing Charm grants players immunity to the ignite ailment when the player is ignited. Charms are an excellent way to cover a character’s defensive weaknesses, especially early in the game where powerful armor can be in short supply.
Similar to flasks, charms use a charge system that limits their availability while in combat. Charms have a maximum of 80 charges, consuming a number of them when their effect is activated. These charges must then be restored by killing monsters. As a result, charms may not always be available when a player needs them most, requiring them to be diligent in tracking their charms’ activations, and play more defensively while their charges are depleted. To help alleviate this, charms can also be crafted, turning them into magic or rare items and gaining stats like increased charges gained, reduced charges used, and more.
The number of charms that can be equipped at a single time is determined by the player’s equipped belt, indicated by the belt’s “Charm Slots” stat. At lower levels, players will only be able to equip one charm at a time, with higher level belts granting more charm slots.
